How to Get to Playa de las Salinas de Cabo de Gata

Getting to Playa de las Salinas de Cabo de Gata is relatively straightforward, although it requires a short journey that immerses us in the beauty of the Natural Park. The beach is very close to the village of Cabo de Gata and the hamlet of Las Salinas.

By Car

The most comfortable and common option is to arrive by car. From the city of Almería, we take the AL-3115 road towards Cabo de Gata. Before reaching the village, or just past it, we'll find signs for the Salinas and the Cabo de Gata Lighthouse. The beach stretches along the road that borders the salt flats. There are several areas where we can park informally, often on the roadside or in small designated dirt clearings. It's important to remember that we are in a Natural Park, so we must respect the signage and not enter protected areas. The journey from Almería city takes approximately 30-40 minutes.

Public Transport

During the summer months, there are usually bus lines connecting Almería city with Cabo de Gata and some of its beaches. However, direct access to the area closest to the Salinas can be limited, and we may need to walk a bit from the nearest stop or consider a taxi from the village of Cabo de Gata. We always recommend checking updated schedules and routes before planning your visit.

The Sand and Water

Playa de las Salinas de Cabo de Gata welcomes us with sand that is a pure delight for the senses. Here, the sand is predominantly fine and of a light golden hue, very pleasant to the touch. It's a pleasure to walk barefoot on this expanse, feeling the softness under our feet. Along its more than one thousand meters in length, the beach offers ample space for everyone to find their own corner of peace, without crowds, even in high season.

The Mediterranean waters at this Almería beach are a true spectacle. We encounter crystal-clear, turquoise-blue waters that invite us for a swim from the first moment. The entry into the sea is usually gentle and gradual, making it an excellent option for families with children or for those who prefer the tranquility of shallow waters.

Furthermore, being protected by the bay and its orientation, the waves are usually very moderate, creating a natural pool ideal for swimming or simply floating. The water quality is, in general, exceptional, reflecting the care and protection given to the entire Natural Park. We'll be amazed by the clarity with which we can see the seabed, even at some distance from the shore.

The philosophy of Playa de las Salinas de Cabo de Gata is to maintain its natural and minimally developed essence, so the services are not as extensive as on more urbanized beaches, but they do include the essentials for a comfortable day.

Parking

As mentioned, parking is informal but sufficient. We find dirt parking areas along the road that runs parallel to the beach and the salt flats. It's important to arrive early in high season to secure a good spot, especially if we want to be close to the main access points.

Chiringuitos (Beach Bars)

During the summer months, and sometimes in the shoulder season, one or two chiringuitos are usually set up right on the beach. These establishments offer us the chance to enjoy a refreshing drink, an ice cream, or even a tapa or dish of fresh fish with unbeatable views of the sea and the salt flats. They are places with a relaxed and authentic atmosphere, perfect for a break in the sun.

Lifeguard Service

For our peace of mind, Playa de las Salinas de Cabo de Gata has a lifeguard service during the bathing season, which generally runs from mid-June to mid-September. The lifeguard posts are visible and ensure the safety of bathers, although it is always essential to exercise extreme caution and follow their instructions.

It's important to note that, being a beach in a protected natural environment, we won't typically find showers or public toilets on the beach itself, beyond what the chiringuitos may offer. There is also no rental of umbrellas or sun loungers, so it's advisable to bring our own equipment for greater comfort.
