How to Get to Playa de los Genoveses

Getting to Playa de los Genoveses is part of the adventure, and it's important to know the particularities of its access, especially if we go during the high season. Located a short distance from the charming village of San José, in the municipality of Níjar, this beach is part of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, which implies certain restrictions to preserve its environment.

Access by Car

For most of the year, we can access by car via a well-signposted dirt track that starts from San José. This track leads directly to a designated parking area next to the beach. However, during the summer months (generally from June to September) and Easter week, access by private vehicle is regulated. When the parking capacity is full, the track is closed to traffic, and access is only possible using a shuttle bus service that operates from San José. This system, although it may seem inconvenient, is essential to protect the ecosystem and avoid overcrowding, allowing us to enjoy the beach in a more sustainable way. The cost of parking or the bus is symbolic and contributes to the maintenance of the park.

Access on Foot or by Bicycle

For the more active, Playa de los Genoveses is perfectly accessible on foot or by bicycle from San José. It's a pleasant walk of about 20-30 minutes along a flat, well-marked path that offers spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. This is, without a doubt, the best way to fully immerse ourselves in the tranquility of the park even before setting foot on the sand. We recommend bringing water and sun protection, especially if the sun is strong.

The Sand and Water

Playa de los Genoveses delights us with fine, golden sand that stretches for almost a kilometer, inviting us to walk barefoot and feel its softness under our feet. This sand, of volcanic and sedimentary origin, gives it a warm and pleasant tone that contrasts wonderfully with the turquoise blue of its waters. It's the kind of sand that sticks just enough to remind us where we are, but comes off easily, making every step a caress.

The transparency of the water allows us to easily observe the seabed, although without the exuberance of other rocky coves in the park; here, the beauty lies in purity and calm. The absence of rocks on the shore facilitates access to and exit from the water, making this beach a very comfortable option for everyone.

Services and Facilities

One of the most distinctive and, at the same time, most appreciated characteristics of Playa de los Genoveses is its pristine nature and the almost total absence of services and facilities. This is not an oversight, but a conscious and fundamental decision to preserve its unique ecosystem within the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park. When we visit Genoveses, we must go with the mindset that we are entering a protected natural space, where modern comfort gives way to untouched beauty.

Limited Services

Here we won't find chiringuitos to have a drink or eat, nor showers to rinse off the salt, nor public toilets, nor umbrella and sunbed rentals. There are also no lifeguards watching over the beach, so caution and common sense are our best allies. This is a beach for those who appreciate nature in its purest state and are willing to prepare for it. We always recommend bringing everything necessary: plenty of water, food, sunscreen, towels, an umbrella if the sun is intense, and of course, a bag to collect our waste and leave the place just as we found it.

Regulated Parking

The only 'service' we can mention is the parkin
