How to get to Playa de las Conchas

Getting to Playa de las Conchas is, in itself, part of the adventure and charm of this paradise. La Graciosa is an island without asphalt roads, which already gives us an idea of the type of experience that awaits us. Our journey begins in Lanzarote, specifically at the port of Órzola, in the north of the island. From there, we will take a ferry that will take us to Caleta de Sebo, the only inhabited settlement on La Graciosa, in approximately 25-30 minutes. The ferries are frequent and offer us spectacular views of the Risco de Famara and the Chinijo archipelago itself.

Once in Caleta de Sebo, we have several options to get to Playa de las Conchas, which is located about 6 kilometers northwest of the village. We always recommend the bicycle, as it is the most popular and ecological way to explore the island. There are several bicycle rental points in Caleta de Sebo, and the path to the beach is relatively flat, although with some areas of loose sand that may require a bit more effort. The bike ride will take us between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on our pace and the stops we make to admire the landscape.

Another option, for the more adventurous and with time, is to walk. The hike is approximately an hour and a half to two hours, under the sun, so it is essential to carry enough water, sunscreen and appropriate footwear. It is a beautiful route that allows us to appreciate every detail of the volcanic and desert landscape of La Graciosa. Finally, for those who prefer a more comfortable option, there are authorized jeep-taxis. These 4x4 vehicles will take us directly to the beach in about 15-20 minutes. It is a good alternative if we are with small children or if we simply want to save energy to enjoy the beach. Whatever method is chosen, the path to Playa de las Conchas is an experience in itself, preparing us for the virgin beauty that awaits.

The sand and the water

When stepping onto Playa de las Conchas, the first thing that captivates us is the quality of its sand. It is an almost brilliant gold, so fine that it slips between the fingers like stardust. Walking barefoot on it is a delight, feeling its softness and the warmth that the sun gives it. The Atlantic currents are powerful here, especially on windy days or during spring tides, pulling strongly out to sea. We always warn that, although the temptation to dive into those crystal clear waters is great, it is not a beach recommended for swimming, especially for children or inexperienced swimmers. The absence of surveillance and the distance from any lifeguard service mean that maximum caution is required.

We can enjoy the shore, wet our feet, feel the foam of the waves, but always with the utmost caution and without venturing into the sea. The force of the waves can be considerable, and the slope from the shore is sometimes steep. The water, although clear, can be cool, especially outside the summer months. It invites contemplation more than a dip, photography more than swimming. It is a place to respect the power of the ocean and admire its majesty from a safe distance. The beauty of nature here is raw and powerful, and we must approach it with humility and respect.
