How to Get to Playa de Martiánez

Getting to Playa de Martiánez in Puerto de la Cruz is extremely easy, given its central location. For many of us, especially if we are staying in the municipality itself, the most pleasant and comfortable way will simply be to take a stroll. The beach is located at the eastern end of the promenade, just a few minutes' walk from most hotels, apartments, and the commercial heart of the city. This walk will allow us to discover the charm of Puerto de la Cruz, with its flower-filled balconies and small shops.

If we are coming from other towns in Tenerife, public transport is an excellent option. The Titsa bus network connects Puerto de la Cruz with practically the entire island. There are numerous lines that arrive at the Puerto de la Cruz bus station, located about a 15-20 minute walk from the beach. From there, we can take a taxi, which will drop us off right at the beach entrance, or enjoy the pleasant walk through the pedestrian streets. For those who prefer the comfort of a private or rental car, access is equally easy via the Northern motorway (TF-5). However, we must consider that parking in the center of Puerto de la Cruz can be a challenge, especially in high season. There are paid underground car parks nearby, such as the one at the Centro Comercial Martiánez or the public car parks along the coast, which are the most recommended option to avoid driving around looking for a spot. In short, whatever our starting point, reaching this coastal corner is just another part of the experience offered by northern Tenerife.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Martiánez surprises us from the first moment with its distinctive dark volcanic sand. Unlike the golden sand beaches some of us might be used to, here we find a color ranging from dark gray to intense black, a constant reminder of Tenerife's volcanic nature. This 'fine' sand is soft to the touch and heats up quickly under the sun, making it a pleasure to walk barefoot on it, feeling the energy of the earth under our feet. Although it is not an extensive beach, its approximate length of 200 meters offers us enough space to spread out our towel and enjoy a day of relaxation by the sea.

As for the water, it is undoubtedly one of Martiánez's great attractions. Protected by breakwaters, the bay offers us exceptionally calm waters. This makes it an ideal place for swimming, even for those with less experience or for families with young children. The absence of strong currents and waves makes the sea like a large natural pool, inviting us to float and enjoy a refreshing dip. The transparency of its waters, despite the dark sand, allows us to observe the seabed on the clearest days. The water temperature, influenced by Atlantic currents, is usually pleasant for much of the year, allowing us to enjoy a revitalizing swim in any season. It is, in short, a beach that offers us the perfect combination of unique sand and serene waters, ideal for enjoyment and leisure.

Services and Facilities

One of the great advantages of Playa de Martiánez is the complete range of services and facilities we have at our disposal, making it a very comfortable option for spending the day. As an urban beach, the Puerto de la Cruz city council strives to keep it in optimal condition and equipped for everyone's enjoyment. Among the most notable services, we find lifeguard points that operate during bathing hours, ensuring our safety and peace of mind. It is essential to always follow the lifeguards' instructions and the flags signaling the sea conditions.

Furthermore, for our comfort, we have showers to rinse off the salt and sand after swimming, as well as public bathrooms/WCs, always clean and accessible. If we prefer not to carry our own towels and umbrellas, we have the option to rent umbrellas and sun loungers directly on the beach, allowing us to relax to the fullest without worries. Right next to the beach and along the promenade, we will find a wide variety of chiringuitos (beach bars) and restaurants where we can enjoy a cold drink, a snack, or a full meal with sea views. The beach is also adapted for people with reduced mobility, with access ramps and amphibious chairs available upon request. In summary, Playa de Martiánez is a beach that thinks of everything so that our only concern is enjoying the sun and the sea.
