How to Get to Playa de Galissas

Getting to Playa de Galissas is a simple and pleasant part of our adventure in Syros. The island is very well connected, facilitating access both from the Greek mainland and from other Cycladic islands. For most travelers, the gateway to Syros will be through its capital, Ermoupoli, a bustling and charming port that serves as the nerve center for the entire island.

From Athens and Other Islands

If we are coming from Athens, we have two main options. The most popular and picturesque is the ferry from the port of Piraeus or Rafina. There are multiple daily connections, with journeys varying between 2.5 and 4 hours, depending on the type of ship (fast or conventional). We always recommend the ferry because it allows us to enjoy the views of the Aegean and often glimpse other islands along the way. It's an experience in itself, part of the charm of Greece beaches.

The other option is to fly. Syros has a small domestic airport (JSY) that receives short-duration flights from Athens International Airport (ATH). Although flights are faster, they are often less frequent and can be a bit more expensive, but for those who prioritize time, it is an excellent alternative. Once at Syros airport, a taxi or bus will take us directly to Ermoupoli, from where we will continue to Galissas.

From Ermoupoli to Galissas

Once in Ermoupoli, getting to Galissas is very easy. Playa de Galissas is located about 9 kilometers southwest of the capital and is perfectly connected by the island's public bus network. The buses are frequent, comfortable, and economical, and the stop in Galissas leaves us just steps from the sand. It's an option we always consider very practical, especially if we don't want to rent a car. The bus journey also offers us the opportunity to observe the rural landscape of Syros, with its hills and small villages, as we approach the coast.

For those who prefer more independence, renting a car or a motorbike in Ermoupoli is an excellent idea. Syros is a relatively small island and its roads are in good condition, allowing us to explore at our own pace not only Galissas but also other Syros beaches and the charming corners of the interior. Taxis are also available, which can be a good option if we are traveling in a group or with a lot of luggage. Whatever our choice, the road to Galissas is a promise of what awaits us: a day of sun, sea, and pure relaxation.
