How to Get to Playa de Agios Antonios

Getting to Playa de Agios Antonios on Tilos is part of the adventure and charm of visiting a less-explored Greek island. First, we must reach the island of Tilos. The most common way is by ferry. We usually take a ferry from larger, well-connected islands like Rhodes or Kos, which in turn have air connections to Athens and other European cities. From the port of Piraeus in Athens, there are also direct ferries, although the journey is considerably longer, often overnight, offering a more authentic maritime experience across the Aegean.

Once we arrive at the port of Livadia, the main hub of Tilos, we have several options to get to Agios Antonios, which is about 7-8 kilometers to the northwest. We always recommend renting a scooter or a small car, which gives us the freedom to explore the island at our own pace. There are several rental agencies in Livadia and prices are usually reasonable, especially outside the high season. The road to Agios Antonios is picturesque, winding through arid landscapes dotted with olive trees and Mediterranean shrubs, with spectacular sea views.

If we prefer not to drive, the local Tilos bus is an excellent option. There is a regular bus service connecting Livadia with the island's main points, including Agios Antonios. Schedules are usually adapted to ferry arrivals and departures, and it is an economical and comfortable way to get around. However, the schedules can be a bit 'flexible' in the Greek style, so it's always good to ask and plan with a little margin. Finally, we can also opt for a taxi from Livadia, a faster and more direct option, ideal if we are traveling with more luggage or in a group. The journey is short and pleasant, preparing us for the serenity that awaits at Playa de Agios Antonios.

When we talk about Playa de Agios Antonios, we must clarify that we are not dealing with a beach of fine, golden sand, but a coastline of pebbles and coarse sand.
