When we think of Mexico's beaches, and more specifically of Guerrero's beaches, it's impossible not to evoke the image of Acapulco, a destination that has captivated generations. And within this iconic port, Playa Caleta shines with its own light, presenting itself as a true treasure, a haven of tradition and joy that invites us to immerse ourselves in the purest essence of the Mexican Pacific. For us, visiting Playa Caleta is much more than a simple day of sun and sea; it's an experience that connects us with the living history of Acapulco, with its flavors, its sounds and its unmistakable spirit.

This picturesque cove, located in the old part of the port, next to its sister Playa Caletilla, is a vibrant canvas where entire families gather to enjoy its serene waters and festive atmosphere. It's the perfect place for those seeking the tranquility of a calm sea, ideal for the little ones, and at the same time, the effervescence of local life, with street vendors, music and the aroma of Guerrero's cuisine floating in the air. We are drawn to its authenticity, to that ability to offer both relaxation and a genuine cultural immersion, making it one of the most beloved and frequented beaches in Acapulco.

How to get to Playa Caleta

Getting to Playa Caleta is relatively easy, as it's located in the traditional zone of Acapulco, west of the main bay. If you're coming from Acapulco International Airport (ACA), the journey by taxi or private vehicle can take between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on traffic. Once in the city, the beach is easily accessible.

• By private car or taxi: This is the most comfortable option. From any point in Acapulco, you just need to follow the signs to the 'traditional zone' or directly to 'Playas Caleta and Caletilla'. There is parking available in the surrounding area, although it can fill up quickly in high season. Some nearby hotels also offer parking. Taxi fares are reasonable, but it's always advisable to agree on the rate before starting the trip.
• Public transportation: Acapulco has a network of urban buses that run along the Costera Miguel Alemán. Look for those that indicate 'Caleta' or 'Caletilla'. They are economical and will drop you off a short distance from the beach, allowing you to have a more local experience. This is an excellent option if you want to immerse yourself in the city's daily rhythm.
• From the pier: If you are in downtown Acapulco, a short taxi or bus ride will take you directly to this charming cove. The location of Playa Caleta is privileged, as it's close enough to the main points of interest in the traditional zone to be convenient, but sufficiently removed from the bustle of the Costera to offer a distinctive atmosphere.

The sand and the water

When stepping onto Playa Caleta, the first thing we notice is its fine, golden sand, soft to the touch and perfect for building sandcastles or simply lying under the sun. It's clean, well-maintained sand that invites you to walk barefoot along the shore. The type of ground is predominantly sand, making it very comfortable for all ages, without rocks or pebbles that could hinder walking or playing.

But the true protagonist here is the water. The waters of Playa Caleta are famous for their exceptional calm and shallowness, a characteristic that distinguishes it among Mexico's beaches. We find a crystal-clear sea, with a turquoise blue hue that invites you to dive in immediately. The calmness of the waves is largely due to the natural protection provided by La Roqueta Island, which acts as a barrier, creating a natural pool ideal for children and for those who don't feel comfortable with strong waves. The water temperature is pleasantly warm for most of the year, allowing for long swims without feeling cold. It's a place where we can swim without worries, float placidly, or simply splash around with the little ones, knowing that safety is a priority on this beautiful Guerrero beach.

Services and facilities

Playa Caleta is a beach that has it all, or almost all, to make our visit as pleasant as possible. Its infrastructure is designed for visitor comfort, combining tourist offerings with local flavor:

• Umbrellas and sun loungers: All along the beach, we find a large number of stalls that rent umbrellas and comfortable sun loungers for an affordable price. This allows us to relax in the shade, protect ourselves from the tropical sun, and enjoy the views without worrying about bringing our own equipment.
• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: The gastronomic offering is one of the strong points of Playa Caleta. Dozens of chiringuitos and restaurants line the shore, offering us everything from fresh seafood and fish (we can't leave without trying the famous pescado a la talla!) to Mexican snacks, refreshing drinks and ice-cold beers. The atmosphere is lively, with music and the bustle of people enjoying a good meal with their feet in the sand. We love the feeling of being able to order a delicious dish without having to move away from the sea.
• Lifeguards: Safety is an important concern, and therefore, we have the presence of lifeguards who watch over the beach, especially in the busiest areas. This gives us additional peace of mind, knowing there is trained personnel to attend to any emergency.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: After a refreshing swim in the sea, it's always useful to have showers to rinse off the salt and sand. Although they are not luxury facilities, they serve their purpose. Public toilets are also available, although sometimes they may req
