How to Get to Playa Los Cerritos

Getting to Playa Los Cerritos is a simple task, especially if we are already in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. Its strategic location, north of the famous Zona Dorada, makes it very accessible from any point in the city or even from the international airport. We always recommend planning the route in advance to save time and enjoy to the fullest from the first moment.

From Mazatlán International Airport (MZT)

If we arrive by plane, Mazatlán International Airport (General Rafael Buelna) is about 30-40 minutes by car from Playa Los Cerritos. Transportation options include authorized airport taxis, shared ride services (like Uber or Didi, available in Mazatlán), or rental vehicles. We prefer renting a car if we plan to explore the surroundings, as it gives us more freedom. Taxis are a comfortable and direct option, although a bit more expensive.

From Mazatlán's Downtown or the Zona Dorada

For those already staying in Mazatlán's historic center or the Zona Dorada, the options are even more varied and economical. We can choose:

• Taxi or app-based services: They are fast and comfortable. The journey from the Zona Dorada is just 5-10 minutes, while from the historic center it can take about 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic.
• City buses: This is the most economical option. Buses going to 'Cerritos' or 'Marina' usually pass through the Zona Dorada and will drop us off near the beach. It is an excellent way to experience local life and immerse ourselves in Sinaloan culture. We always enjoy these trips, which allow us to observe the city's daily life.
• Pulmonías: These iconic open-air taxis, exclusive to Mazatlán, offer a fun and picturesque experience. They are perfect for a ride with sea breeze and music. The price is negotiable, so we recommend agreeing on it before getting in.
• Private or rental car: If we have our own vehicle, the road to Playa Los Cerritos is well signposted. We will find several parking options, both in nearby hotels and condominiums and in small public parking lots. We always look for those with shade to protect the car from the Sinaloan sun.

The Sand and the Water

When stepping onto Playa Los Cerritos, the first thing that captivates us is the quality of its sand. It is fine sand, of a golden tone that shines under the Sinaloa sun, soft to the touch and perfect for walking barefoot for miles. Unlike some beaches with coarse sand or pebbles, here our feet sink slightly, offering a pleasant and relaxing sensation with each step. The predominant type of soil is, as we have already mentioned, sand, which facilitates access to the water and allows us to enjoy a natural and obstacle-free environment. We will not find rocks or steep areas that make swimming or walking along the shore difficult, making it a safe and accessible option for all audiences.

As for the water, that of Playa Los Cerritos is a true delight. Warm for most of the year, it presents a blue-greenish hue that invites us to dive in. The water quality is generally good, clean and transparent, allowing us to see the sandy bottom at shallow depths. We always appreciate the clarity of the water, which gives us confidence when swimming and allows us to observe the nearest marine life.
