When we think of Durrës beaches, we often imagine the city's long, busy stretch of sand. However, Playa de Kallmi stands out with a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere, ideal for those looking to truly disconnect. How to Get to Playa de Kallmi

Getting to Playa de Kallmi is quite straightforward, given its proximity to the city of Durrës. We always recommend renting a car if you're coming from outside the area, as it gives you unparalleled freedom to explore not only the beach but also the surroundings. From the center of Durrës, the drive is just 10-15 minutes, following the coastal road north. There are signs that will guide you to the area.

If you prefer public transport, there are local buses connecting the center of Durrës with the nearby coastal areas. Ask for the line going to 'Kallmi' or 'Plazhi i Kallmit'. Taxis are also a comfortable and relatively inexpensive option, especially if you're traveling in a group. For those staying in nearby hotels, they often offer transport services or the beach is within walking distance.

The Sand and Water

The first thing we notice when stepping onto Playa de Kallmi is the quality of its sand. It's fine, soft sand, of a light golden hue that invites you to walk barefoot and build sandcastles with the little ones. Unlike some rockier beaches we might find in other parts of the Adriatic, the ground here is predominantly sand, making it very comfortable for relaxing and sunbathing.

The water is another of its great attractions. The Adriatic waters in this area are generally calm and a transparent blue, especially on sunny days. The entry into the sea is gentle and gradual, meaning you can wade in quite far without the water suddenly covering you, a feature we greatly appreciate, especially when traveling with children. The cleanliness of the water is notable and allows us to enjoy a refreshing swim in a pleasant and safe environment.

Services and Facilities

One of the advantages of the Durrës beach of Kallmi is that, despite its more tranquil atmosphere, it offers a good range of services that make the stay very comfortable. We always appreciate having everything we need close at hand, and Kallmi doesn't disappoint:

• Sunbeds and umbrellas: During the season, you'll find numerous spots where you can rent umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds for a reasonable price. This is ideal for spending the whole day without worrying about bringing your own equipment.
• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: There's no shortage of chiringuitos and small restaurants right on the sand or very close to it. Here you can enjoy refreshments, ice cream, coffee, and, of course, delicious dishes from local and international cuisine. They're perfect for a light lunch or a dinner with sea views.
• Parking: Although sometimes it can be a bit informal, there are generally parking areas available near the beach, which is a big advantage if you arrive by car.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: It's common to find basic showers to rinse off sand and salt after swimming, as well as public toilet facilities or those in nearby restaurants, which adds an extra level of comfort.
• Lifeguards: During the high season, the beach usually has lifeguard service, which gives us greater peace of mind, especially when traveling with children or elderly people.

Best Time to Visit

For us, the best time to visit Playa de Kallmi and, in general, Albanian beaches, is during the months of June and September. During these periods, the weather is warm and sunny, ideal for enjoying the beach, but the crowds are considerably smaller than at the peak of summer.

• July and August: These are the hottest months and, therefore, the busiest. The beach can be more crowded, accommodation and service prices are higher, and the sun is very intense. If you like a lively atmosphere and don't mind the crowds, these months might be suitable.
• May and October: These are transitional months. The weather can be a bit unpredictable, but it's still possible to find sunny, pleasant days for a walk on the beach. The water might be a bit cold for swimming for some, but the tranquility is absolute.
