How to Get to Playa de Dhërmi

Getting to Playa de Dhërmi is part of the adventure and, fortunately, increasingly accessible. The most common route for most international visitors is to fly into Mother Teresa International Airport (TIA) in Tirana, Albania's capital. From Tirana, the road trip to Dhërmi takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, depending on traffic and stops. We can choose to rent a car, which we highly recommend for the freedom to explore the surroundings, or take a direct bus or taxi. The SH8 road, known as the coastal road or the Llogara Pass, is a scenic route that gifts us with spectacular views of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, winding through the mountains until descending to the coast. It's a journey that, in itself, is already a tourist attraction.

For those arriving from the south, for example, from Greece or the ferry from Corfu to Sarandë, the journey is equally picturesque. From Sarandë, the drive to Dhërmi can take about 2 hours, following the same coastal road north. Although there are bus services connecting major cities with Dhërmi, their schedules can be limited or irregular, especially outside the high season. Therefore, if we seek comfort and flexibility to explore the beaches of Vlora and its surroundings, a rental car is our best option. Numerous rental companies operate in Tirana and other major cities. Once in Dhërmi, the beach is easily accessible on foot from most accommodations or via a short drive to the available parking areas, although they can fill up quickly during the high season.

Unlike many fine-sand beaches we find in other parts of the Mediterranean, Dhërmi surprises us with its white pebbles, smooth and polished by the constant ebb and flow of the waves.
