How to Get to Playa de Palasë

Getting to Playa de Palasë is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it is quite accessible, especially if we are coming from Vlora or from the north of the Albanian Riviera. The SH8 road, which winds through the impressive Llogara Pass, is the main access route and is, in itself, a visual spectacle. We always recommend taking the time to enjoy the panoramic views offered by this route, with viewpoints that gift us unforgettable postcards of the Ionian Sea and the mountains.

From Vlora

If we depart from the city of Vlora, the journey to Palasë is approximately 30-40 kilometers, which translates to about 45 minutes to an hour by car, depending on traffic and how many stops we make to admire the landscape. The road is in good condition, although there are sections with sharp curves when crossing the Llogara Pass. It is a scenic journey that prepares us for the beauty that awaits us upon reaching the coast.

From Tirana and the Airport

For those arriving in Albania by air, the nearest international airport is Tirana (TIA). From Tirana, the trip to Palasë is about 3 to 4 hours by car, covering a distance of approximately 180-200 kilometers. We suggest renting a car directly at the airport, as it gives us the freedom to explore the region at our own pace. There are also options for intercity buses connecting Tirana with Vlora, and from Vlora, you can take a taxi or a local bus to Palasë, although this last option may be less frequent and more complicated with luggage.

Local Transport

Once in the Vlora area, there are taxis and minibuses (known as 'furgonë') that can take us to Playa de Palasë. However, the frequency of these services can vary, especially outside the high season. For greater comfort and flexibility, a rental car is, without a doubt, the best option. Furthermore, Palasë has ample Parking areas, which is a considerable advantage if we are traveling in our own vehicle.

The Sand and Water

When we think of Playa de Palasë, the image that immediately comes to mind is one of astonishing water transparency and a distinctive shoreline. Unlike many Mediterranean beaches with fine sand, Palasë surprises us with a unique combination that contributes to its particular charm and the clarity of its waters.

Type of Ground: Pebbles and Sand

The predominant type of ground at Playa de Palasë is pebbles. These pebbles are small, white, and polished by the constant ebb and flow of the waves, giving them a special shine under the Albanian sun. While it may feel a bit different to walk on them at first, we have discovered that they are incredibly pleasant, as they don't stick to the skin like sand and get less hot. In some sections of the beach, especially towards the ends or in areas further from the immediate shoreline, we find a mix of pebbles with mixed sand, which offers a softer surface for lying down and relaxing.

This characteristic of the ground has a significant advantage: the absence of fine suspended sand. This allows the water to remain exceptionally clear and pure, offering us impressive underwater visibility, ideal for snorkeling and diving. We always recommend bringing water shoes or sandals for greater comfort when entering and exiting the sea, although many prefer to feel the pebbles under their feet as part of the natural experience.

The waters of Playa de Palasë are, without exaggeration, spectacular. Their color ranges from a deep blue in the distance to a vibrant emerald turquoise near the shore, a color palette that reminds us of the world's most famous beaches.
