How to Get to Playa Ventanas
Getting to Playa Ventanas is part of the adventure and offers us the opportunity to enjoy the scenic landscapes of the southern zone of Costa Rica. The beach is located in the Osa canton, province of Puntarenas, specifically south of Uvita and very close to the town of Ojochal. For most international visitors, the starting point is usually the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in Alajuela, near San José.
From San José
If we're coming from San José, we have several options. The most common is to take Route 27 towards Caldera, then the Costanera Sur (Route 34) that runs along the Pacific coast. The trip takes approximately 3-4 hours by car, depending on traffic and stops. The road is in excellent condition for most of the journey. Once we pass Dominical and Uvita, we must watch for signs towards Ojochal and, later, the turnoffs to Playa Ventanas. It's important to consider that the last stretch of road to the beach is a dirt road, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended, especially during the rainy season, although a high-clearance car is usually sufficient in the dry season.
From Uvita or Dominical
If we are already in the 'Southern Zone' of Costa Rica, for example, in Uvita or Dominical, access is much quicker. From Uvita, Playa Ventanas is about 15-20 minutes by car to the south. From Dominical, the journey is a bit longer, around 30-40 minutes, always via the Costanera Sur (Route 34).
