How to Get to Playa de Sablićevo

Getting to Playa de Sablićevo is relatively straightforward, given its location in the city of Rijeka. For us, ease of access is always a plus, especially when we travel with the intention of relaxing and not complicating our lives with long journeys or confusing directions. This beach, being a local treasure, is well integrated into the urban infrastructure.

By Car

If we choose to drive, the journey from the center of Rijeka is short, usually no more than 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic and time of day. The beach is well signposted, and although the streets can be a bit narrow in the nearby residential area, the reward of reaching this quiet corner is worth it. There are parking areas in the vicinity, often along adjacent streets or in small designated parking lots. However, during the summer months and on weekends, it can be a bit tricky to find a free spot, so our recommendation is to arrive early to secure a good place and avoid frustration. Also, it's always good to check if parking is paid or free, although we often find free options a bit further away that involve a short and pleasant walk.

By Public Transport

Public transport is an excellent alternative, especially if we prefer not to worry about parking or if we want to immerse ourselves more in the rhythm of local life. Rijeka has an efficient network of city buses. Several bus lines have stops relatively close to Sablićevo, facilitating access. For example, line 1 towards Pećine or Kostrena is usually a good option, leaving us just a few minutes' walk from the beach. We'll get off at the nearest stop and from there it will be a short and pleasant walk to the shore. This method allows us to enjoy the scenery and experience the city like a local, without the stress of driving in an unfamiliar place. Checking schedules and routes on the local transport app or at bus stops is always a good idea to plan our trip efficiently.

On Foot or by Bicycle

For the more active and those who enjoy outdoor exploration, getting to Playa de Sablićevo on foot or by bicycle from the center of Rijeka is a viable and very pleasant option, especially if the weather is favorable. It is a coastal walk that allows us to admire the panoramic views of the Adriatic, the local architecture, and the beauty of the coastline. The path is mostly flat, although there may be some gentle slopes that will make us feel we've earned our dip. This route gives us the opportunity to discover small corners, take stunning photographs, and enjoy the sea breeze before reaching our final destination. It is an excellent way to combine exercise with the pleasure of the beach, and allows us to appreciate the transition from the urban to the natural environment of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar beaches.

The Sand and Water

When talking about Playa de Sablićevo, we must be very clear from the start: let's not expect to find the typical fine, golden sand beaches we see in postcards from the Caribbean or some parts of the Mediterranean. Here, the undisputed protagonist is the pebble. And not just any pebble, but one that has been perfectly polished by the tides and time, resulting in a comfortable surface to walk on (although sandals or water shoes are never a bad idea) and spread out our towel. We love the unique texture that l
