How to Get to Playa de Punta Rata

Getting to Playa de Punta Rata is relatively straightforward, though it requires a bit of planning, especially during the peak summer season. The beach is located in the charming town of Brela, which is part of the Split-Dalmatia region on Croatia's Dalmatian coast.

By Car

If you're traveling by car, the most common way to get there, you should head towards Brela from the coastal road D8. From Split, the journey takes about an hour, while from Makarska, the distance is about 15-20 minutes. Once in Brela, you'll find signs guiding you to the beach. However, parking can be a challenge. There are several paid parking areas near the beach, but they fill up quickly in July and August. We recommend arriving early in the morning to secure a spot, or consider staying in Brela and walking to the beach.

By Public Transport

From larger cities like Split or Makarska, you can take a local bus that will drop you off in Brela. Bus stops are usually on the main road, from where you'll need to walk downhill to the beach. It's an economical option and allows you to avoid the stress of parking, although the walk back can be a bit demanding due to the slope.

On Foot or by Bicycle

If you're staying in Brela or nearby towns like Baška Voda, the best option is to get there on foot or by bicycle. The Makarska Riviera features a beautiful seaside promenade that connects several towns and beaches, offering spectacular views of the Adriatic and the Biokovo mountains. It's a fantastic way to enjoy the landscape and reach the beach without complications.

The Sand and Water

The most distinctive feature of Playa de Punta Rata is not sand, but its immaculate white pebbles. Unlike the sandy beaches we often find in other destinations, Croatian beaches, and Punta Rata in particular, are famous for their smooth, sea-polished pebbles. The water temperature in summer is very pleasant, ranging between 22°C and 26°C, ideal for long swims and cooling off from the Dalmatian sun. Furthermore, the waters are usually very calm, partly protected by the shape of the coast and nearby islands, which adds an extra layer of safety, especially for children. We also highlight the famous Brela Pine, which stands majestically from a small rocky island near the shore, creating a spectacular focal point and, undoubtedly, the most photogenic element of the beach.
