Strategically nestled within the Ría do Barqueiro, Playa de Bares benefits from a privileged location that shelters it from the strong currents and open waves of the Cantabrian Sea, thus creating an environment of serene and crystal-clear waters, perfect for swimming and enjoyment for all ages. Its fine golden sand, caressed by a gentle breeze, stretches out like a natural carpet, promising days of relaxation under the Galician sun. Here, nature is shown in its purest state, with lush vegetation embracing the beach and a horizon where the intense blue of the sea, the green of the mountains, and the charm of a small fishing village blend. How to Get to Playa de Bares

Getting to Playa de Bares is part of the adventure and, although it requires a small detour from the busier routes, the journey is well worth it. The most comfortable and flexible way to access this paradise is, without a doubt, by car. From any point in Galicia, the route will take us along picturesque roads, where rural and coastal landscapes follow one another, hinting at the beauty that awaits us. If we come from the south, the Atlantic Highway (AP-9) will bring us close to Ferrol, from where we will take the coastal road N-642 towards Viveiro. Once near O Barqueiro, we will find the signs for Bares and its beach.

For those traveling from eastern Galicia or Asturias, the N-642 will also be our ally, skirting the coast and offering us spectacular views. The municipality of Mañón and the small town of O Barqueiro are our reference points. Once we enter the core of Bares, access to the beach is straightforward and well-signposted. It is important to remember that we are in an area with rural charm, so the roads can be a bit narrow in the final stretches, but always passable and with moderate traffic, even in high season. The experience of driving through these landscapes is, in itself, a delight.

Parking at Playa de Bares

One of the advantages of Playa de Bares is the availability of parking. In the vicinity of the beach, especially during the summer months, parking areas are set up which, although not excessively large, are usually sufficient to accommodate visitors. We always recommend arriving early on days of high attendance to secure a good spot. Parking is usually free, which is a plus for our vacation budget. From the parking area, a short and pleasant walk will take us directly to the sand, with the sea breeze already caressing our face and the sound of the waves inviting us to enjoy.

Public Transport

Public transport to get to Playa de Bares is more limited. There are some bus lines connecting the main population centers of the region with Mañón and O Barqueiro, but the frequencies are not very high and, in most cases, they will not drop us off directly at the beach. We would have to walk a considerable distance or rely on local taxis. For this reason, we always advise using a private vehicle to fully enjoy the freedom of movement and explore the wonderful surroundings offered by this part of A Coruña.

The Sand and the Water

When stepping onto the beach, we will immediately notice its texture: a fine, golden sand, incredibly soft to the touch, that invites us to take off our shoes and enjoy every step. Its golden hue contrasts wonderfully with the greenish-blue of the water, creating a color palette that is a true pleasure for the eyes. The waters of Playa de Bares are, without a doubt, one of its greatest attractions. Being protected within the Ría do Barqueiro, the waves are practically non-existent, making it a perfect natural swimming pool. The waters are calm, crystal clear, and, although they do not reach Mediterranean temperatures, they are pleasant enough in the summer months to enjoy a refreshing swim without surprises. The shallow depth at the shore makes it especially safe for the little ones, allowing families to relax while the children splash around freely. The transparency of the water allows us to see the sandy bottom, which is an indicator of its excellent quality.
