How to get to Playa de Barizo

Getting to Playa de Barizo is relatively straightforward, although we venture into a part of the Costa da Morte that still retains its wild essence. If we're coming from Malpica de Bergantiños, we take the AC-418 road towards Barizo. The journey is short, just a few kilometers, and gifts us panoramic views of the coast that already hint at the beauty awaiting us. It's a well-signposted route, so we won't have major difficulties finding our destination.

Once we approach the village of Barizo, we'll find clear signs to the beach. The road leads us to a well-equipped parking area, located right at the beach or very close to it, which greatly facilitates access, especially if we're loaded with chairs, umbrellas, or, as is often our case, with all the family paraphernalia. This detail is crucial and much appreciated, as it saves us long walks with our beach gear. From the parking lot, a short path or stairs connect us directly to the sand, opening the doors to this Galician paradise. It's one of those beaches in Malpica de Bergantiños with good access.

The sand and the water

When we talk about Playa de Barizo, the quality of its sand is one of the first aspects that come to mind. It's fine sand, of a soft golden color, that feels incredibly pleasant underfoot. The temperature, as is usual in Galicia, can be somewhat cool, but it's perfect for combating the summer heat and feeling fully renewed. At the ends of the beach, we'll find some rock formations that add character to the landscape and are interesting to explore with caution.

Although Playa de Barizo maintains a natural character and is not excessively developed, it offers a series of essential services that make our stay much more comfortable and pleasant. As already mentioned, the presence of a nearby parking is a big plus, eliminating worries about where to leave the car and facilitating access to the beach. This is a detail we greatly value on our beach outings.

In addition to parking, the beach has showers so we can rinse off the salt and sand before heading home, a basic but much-appreciated service. During the peak summer season, safety is ensured by a lifeguard team, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if we're with children. There are also usually public restrooms/WCs, a fundamental detail for a worry-free beach day. For those who enjoy a refreshment or a light meal without leaving the sand, we often find a seasonal chiringuito. This small establishment usually offers cold drinks, ice creams, and some tapas or sandwiches, perfect for recharging with unbeatable sea views. Although it doesn't offer umbrella and sunbed rentals, its service offering is more than enough to enjoy a splendid day at the beach without sacrificing comfort.

Best time to visit

The choice of the best time to visit Playa de Barizo largely depends on what we're looking for in our experience. If our main goal is to enjoy the sun, swimming, and the summer atmosphere, the months of July and August are, without a doubt, the most suitable. During this period, the weather is warmer and more stable, the days are long, and the water temperatures are the most pleasant of the year. It's when all services, such as lifeguards and the chiringuito, are fully operational, and the beach has a livelier atmosphere, although it never gets overcrowded, which is a big plus compared to other more popular beaches.
