From the moment we set foot on Playa de Boa Grande, in the charming municipality of Noia, province of A Coruña, we know we have found a true treasure. This sandy beach, bathed by the calm waters of the Ría de Noia, is a haven of peace that invites us to completely disconnect from the daily hustle and bustle. It is not a beach of large crowds or dazzling infrastructure, but a place where nature rules, offering us a simple and authentic beauty that captivates us from the first instant. It is, without a doubt, one of those A Coruña beaches that remain etched in memory.

Playa de Boa Grande presents itself to us as an expanse of fine, golden sand, guarded by lush vegetation and panoramic views that take our breath away. Its waters, of a characteristic greenish-blue hue of the Galician estuaries, are notably warmer and calmer than those of the open ocean, making it an ideal destination for families and for anyone seeking a relaxing and safe swim. Here, time seems to stand still, and the only sound that really matters is the gentle murmur of the waves caressing the shore. It is a perfect setting for contemplation, reading, or simply enjoying company in an unparalleled environment.

How to get to Playa de Boa Grande

Getting to Playa de Boa Grande is relatively easy, and the best option, without a doubt, is by car. We highly recommend this route, as it offers us the freedom to move at our own pace and explore the wonderful surroundings offered by the Noia region. From the center of Noia, the beach is just a few kilometers away, following a local road that winds through rural landscapes and small villages, adding a picturesque touch to the journey. The signage, although not always abundant, is sufficient to guide us to our destination.

Once we approach the beach, we find designated parking areas that, while not huge, usually offer enough space, especially outside peak hours of the high season. It is a free surface parking lot, which is always a plus. It is important to consider that, on the busiest days in mid-summer, it may be advisable to arrive early to secure a good spot. There is no direct public transport that reaches the shore itself, so a private vehicle or, failing that, a taxi, are the most viable alternatives to enjoy this very special corner of the Noia beach.

The sand and the water

Playa de Boa Grande gives us a unique sensory experience thanks to the quality of its sand and the peculiarity of its waters. The fine, golden sand is, without a doubt, one of its great attractions. It is soft to the touch, ideal for walking barefoot, for children to build sandcastles, or simply for spreading out our towel and enjoying a comfortable day in the sun. Its texture, almost velvety, invites relaxation and play, and its color, which varies with the intensity of the sun, adds a visual charm that we love.

As for the water, we find calm and crystal-clear waters, characteristic of the Galician estuaries. Being in an estuary, the beach is protected from the large Atlantic waves, making it an exceptionally safe place for swimming, especially for the little ones. The depth increases gradually, allowing families to enjoy without worries. Although the water temperature in Galicia is never excessively warm, here we will notice it a bit more pleasant than on open-sea beaches, ideal for cooling off on summer days. The transparency of the water also allows us to observe the sandy bottom and, sometimes, small fish venturing near the shore, adding a touch of marine life to our visit.

Services and facilities

Although Playa de Boa Grande maintains a more natural and less urbanized profile, this does not mean it lacks essential services to ensure a comfortable stay. In fact, we were pleasantly surprised to find a series of facilities that, without altering its essence, contribute to a pleasant experience. One of the strong points, as we already mentioned, is the availability of nearby parking, which greatly facilitates access and saves us worries when arriving with our vehicle.

After swimming, we have showers that allow us to rinse off the salt and sand before returning home, a detail we always appreciate. Furthermore, especially during the summer months, it is common to find a chiringuito or a drinks and ice cream stand, ideal for a snack or a refreshment in the sun. The lifeguard service is also usually active during the high season, providing additional peace of mind for bathers, especially families with children. And to complete the basic comforts, bathrooms/WCs (portable or fixed) are usually installed near the sandy area. These services, although discreet, demonstrate a commitment to the well-being of visitors without sacrificing the natural beauty of this magnificent Noia beach.

Best time to visit

Determining the best time to visit Playa de Boa Grande depends largely on our priorities and what we are looking for in our getaway. Each season offers a different perspective and a particular charm, allowing us to enjoy this sandy beach for a good part of the year.

If our main goal is to enjoy the sun, warmth, and swimming, the summer season, that is, the months of July and August, are undoubtedly the most suitable. During these months, temperatures are more pleasant, the hours of sunlight are longer, and all the beach services (lifeguards, chiringuitos) are usually fully operational.
