Located in the concello of Carnota, between the villages of Lira and O Pindo, access is relatively straightforward, although it travels along secondary roads that immerse us in the Galician rural landscape.

Access Directions

If coming from the Santiago de Compostela or A Coruña area, the most direct route is usually via the AC-550, a coastal road that offers spectacular views. Once in the municipality of Carnota, follow the signs towards Lira. From Lira, there are small signposted detours that will lead you to the vicinity of the beach.

Parking

Near the beach, you will find designated parking areas, often informal or unpaved, that blend into the natural surroundings. We always recommend arriving early during the summer months to secure a good spot, as, although it is an extensive beach, its popularity among those seeking authenticity has been increasing. Always remember to respect the environment and not leave any waste, helping to maintain the beauty of this place.

The Sand

We are faced with a sandy area of fine, golden sand, exceptionally clean, stretching for approximately one kilometer. Walking barefoot on it is a delight, feeling the softness under our feet while contemplating the horizon. It's perfect sand for building sandcastles, for sunbathing, or simply for enjoying a long, relaxing walk along the water's edge, letting the waves erase our footprints.

The Water

The waters of Playa de Mar de Lira are crystal clear and of excellent quality, allowing us to see the seabed on the calmest days. However, it's important to note that we are on the Costa da Morte, facing the open Atlantic. This means currents can be strong and the swell considerable, especially on windy days. Therefore, we always advise exercising extreme caution when swimming, especially with children.

Regarding temperature, as is characteristic of Galician beaches, the water is usually cool, even in the height of summer. For us, it's a revitalizing jolt of energy that makes us feel fully connected to the force of nature. The transparency and purity of these waters reflect the minimal human intervention in the area, something we greatly value.

Available Services

As mentioned, you will find a parking area nearby, though informal in nature. During the summer months, it's common to have lifeguard service, which adds an essential layer of safety given the strength of the waves. Beyond this, the beach does not have chiringuitos directly on the sand, nor sunbed and umbrella rentals, nor public showers or toilets/WCs.

Recommendations

Our recommendation is to prepare for a beach day where nature is the protagonist. Bring your own provisions of water and food, an umbrella if the sun is strong, and everything necessary for your comfort. Always remember to take all your waste back with you, leaving the beach as you found it or even better. The beauty of Mar de Lira lies in its pristine state, and it's everyone's responsibility to preserve it.

Summer (June - September)

For us, summer is the ideal time if our main goal is to enjoy the sun and, with caution, a refreshing swim in its waters. The days are longer and brighter, temperatures are more pleasant, and the lifeguard service is active. It's the time when the beach has the most life, although it remains a place of relative tranquility compared to other more crowded sandy beaches. Be prepared for cool water, though – it's the Galician Atlantic!
