How to Get to Playa de Ornanda (Las Gaviotas)

Getting to Playa de Ornanda (Las Gaviotas) is part of the adventure and, at the same time, relatively straightforward, although we highly recommend traveling by car for greater comfort and to explore the surroundings at your own pace. From Santiago de Compostela, the Galician capital, the journey takes approximately 50-60 minutes. We'll take the AG-11 highway towards Ribeira and, before reaching this town, we'll turn off towards Porto do Son. Once in the municipality, the signs to the beach are clear, guiding us along local roads that wind through coastal landscapes and small rural villages.

From A Coruña, the trip is a bit longer, around an hour and a half. We'll drive south on the AP-9 towards Santiago, and then follow the same directions as from the capital. We mention that, although the main road is in good condition, the last few kilometers to the beach may be on narrower roads, but they are always well signposted. Near the beach, you'll find designated Parking areas, which greatly facilitate access and unloading your belongings. The lack of direct public transport to the cove reinforces the idea that the car is the best option to fully enjoy the freedom offered by this Galician corner.

The Sand and Water
