We've had the pleasure of visiting it on several occasions and it has always surprised us with its peaceful atmosphere, golden sand, and serene waters, making it an ideal destination for those who prioritize rest and family enjoyment.

Playa de Pedrouzo is not one of those beaches that appear on all the mass-produced tourist postcards, and perhaps that's where much of its charm lies. It's a local treasure, well-maintained and valued by those seeking a more authentic connection with the Galician Atlantic. Its privileged location, overlooking the Betanzos estuary, gives it very particular characteristics: waters more sheltered than those of the open sea, a gentle breeze, and views that invite you to lose yourself in the horizon. It's the perfect place to recharge your batteries, stroll without haste, and let the soft murmur of the waves carry away any worries.

How to Get to Playa de Pedrouzo

Getting to Playa de Pedrouzo is relatively easy, especially if you come by car, which is the most comfortable option for exploring this area of Galicia. From A Coruña, the journey is short and pleasant, approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. You can take the AP-9 motorway towards Ferrol and then turn off towards Bergondo, or opt for the national N-VI road, which offers a more scenic route through the coastal towns.

Once in Bergondo, the beach is well signposted. We recommend using GPS to go directly to the access point. The good news is that, unlike other more crowded beaches, Playa de Pedrouzo has a nearby parking area that is generally sufficient, which greatly facilitates the visit, especially if traveling with children or a lot of luggage. Access to the sand is comfortable, without major slopes, making it accessible for most visitors.

The Sand and the Water

If there's something we love about Playa de Pedrouzo, it's the quality of its sand and the placidity of its waters. The sand is a soft golden color, very fine and pleasant to the touch, perfect for laying out a towel and enjoying a good book or for the little ones to build sandcastles without difficulty. It's clean and well-maintained sand, which is greatly appreciated.

The waters, on the other hand, are a true delight. Being inside the Betanzos estuary, they are much more protected from the strong currents and waves of the open ocean. This translates into a calm sea, with little depth in its first few meters, ideal for safe bathing for children and for those who prefer to swim calmly. The water temperature, as is usual in Galicia, is refreshing but very pleasant on sunny summer days. The transparency is notable, allowing us to see the sandy bottom in many areas. It is, without a doubt, a paradise for a dip and worry-free aquatic enjoyment.

Although Playa de Pedrouzo is not a beach that stands out for having extensive tourist infrastructure, it does offer the essential services to ensure a comfortable and safe day. As we already mentioned, it has parking nearby, which is a big plus. Furthermore, we find:

• Restrooms/WC: A basic but fundamental service for a day at the beach.
• Lifeguard Service: During the peak summer season, the beach has lifeguard service, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if going with children.
• Trash Bins: There are points to deposit waste, and it's crucial that we all collaborate in keeping this beautiful environment clean.

Best Time to Visit

The choice of the best time to visit Playa de Pedrouzo will largely depend on our preferences and what we seek in our experience. We, honestly, enjoy it in any season, but each one has its particular charm:

• Summer (June to September): Undoubtedly, the high season. This is when the weather is warmest and sunniest, ideal for bathing and fully enjoying the beach. It's also when lifeguard services are active and there's more atmosphere, although it never gets overcrowded. If you're looking for sun and sea, this is your time.
• Spring (April and May): A wonderful time to walk along the shore, enjoy the tranquility and the explosion of nature. Temperatures are mild and days are longer. Perfect for those seeking relaxation and photography without crowds.
• Autumn (October and November): The colors of the landscape change and the beach takes on a melancholic and beautiful air. It's ideal for contemplative walks and for feeling the power of the Atlantic in a more intimate way. Sunsets can be spectacular.
• Winter (December to March): Although it's not the season for swimming, the beach offers a wild and deserted beauty. It's an excellent place to disconnect, observe migratory birds, and feel the sea breeze without distractions. Just make sure to dress warmly!
