Introduction

From the moment we set foot on Playa de Seselle, in the picturesque municipality of Ares, in the province of A Coruña, we knew we had found a little treasure. This beach, often somewhat overshadowed by other more famous ones in the ria, possesses a particular charm that makes it an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility, natural beauty, and a family-friendly atmosphere. It is not a beach of large crowds or noisy beach bars, but rather a refuge where time seems to slow down, allowing us to connect with the essence of the Galician coast.

Playa de Seselle presents itself to us as a crescent of golden, fine sand, bathed by the serene waters of the Ría de Ares. Its orientation protects it from the strongest winds and the rough Atlantic swell, making it an exceptionally safe and pleasant place for swimming. We have seen entire families enjoying its shores, children building sandcastles, and couples taking sunset strolls, and in each of those moments, Playa de Seselle has gifted us an unforgettable postcard. It is one of those A Coruña beaches that, without being ostentatious, leaves a deep mark on the heart of the visitor, inviting them to return again and again.

How to Get to Playa de Seselle

Getting to Playa de Seselle is relatively easy, and part of its charm lies precisely in its accessibility without losing its intimate atmosphere. If we come by car, which is the most comfortable option for most visitors, the usual route is via the AP-9. We will take the exit towards Ferrol or Fene and, from there, follow the signs to Ares. Once in the municipality of Ares, Playa de Seselle is located east of the urban center, easily found by following the coastal road that runs parallel to the ria. There are signs that will guide us without a problem.

We always recommend using a GPS navigator for the final directions, as it will take us directly to the parking area. Regarding parking, Playa de Seselle has parking zones in its vicinity, although in the summer months, especially on weekends during high season, it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot, so we suggest arriving early. There is no large organized parking lot like at other more crowded beaches, but rather designated areas along the nearby streets. For those who prefer public transport, there are bus lines connecting Ares with Ferrol, from where we could take a taxi or walk a stretch, although the convenience of the car is undeniable for fully enjoying the area.

The Sand and Water

The main feature that captivated us about Playa de Seselle is, without a doubt, its sand and waters. The sand is a very pleasant golden hue, fine and soft to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot and for children to play without worries. We did not find large rocks or pebbles that hinder walking, making it very comfortable for all ages. The feeling of the sand under our feet while walking along the shore is simply delightful, and it's ideal for laying out a towel and enjoying a sunny day without discomfort.

As for the water, Playa de Seselle is a true haven of peace. Being in the Ría de Ares, its waters are notably calm, without the strong surf we often find on open Atlantic beaches. They are crystal-clear waters, with a color ranging from emerald green to turquoise blue, constantly inviting a swim. The water temperature, as is usual in Galicia, is cool but very pleasant in the summer months, offering perfect relief on hot days. Furthermore, the slope for entering the sea is gentle and gradual, making it extremely safe, especially for children and the elderly. We have spent hours swimming and enjoying the calm, feeling the stress dissipate with every stroke in these wonderful Galician waters.

Services and Facilities

Although Playa de Seselle is not one of those beaches with massive tourist infrastructure, it does offer the essential services that contribute to a comfortable and pleasant stay. We greatly appreciate that, despite its tranquil atmosphere, it has what's necessary to enjoy the day without worries. During the summer months, when visitor numbers are highest, we find a lifeguard service, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if we go with children. Safety is always a priority, and knowing there are professionals watching over it is a plus.

It also has public showers, a service we are always grateful for to wash off the sand and salt before heading home or continuing with our activities. Toilets/WCs are usually available, often in portable modules during the high season, which is fundamental for everyone's hygiene and comfort. Regarding parking, as mentioned, there are parking zones on the surrounding streets, which facilitates access to the beach. It's important to note that it is not a beach that usually holds the Blue Flag, which doesn't detract one bit from its charm or cleanliness; it simply doesn't meet all the strict certification criteria for that award. It is also not a beach that allows dogs during the bathing season, following the general regulations for most urban beaches. Although accessibility is not total for people with very reduced mobility (it doesn't have special walkways or amphibious chairs), it does have relatively easy access from the road, with ramps or gently sloping paths in some spots.

Best Time to Visit

Choosing the best time to visit Playa de Seselle depends a lot on what we are looking for. If our priority is to enjoy
