Playa de Vilarrube stretches for almost one and a half kilometers, forming a gentle curve that embraces the mouth of a small river, creating a rich and peculiar ecosystem. Its orientation, sheltered from the prevailing northwest winds, makes it an ideal destination for those seeking to escape intense waves and enjoy a relaxed swim. It is, without a doubt, one of the beaches of A Coruña that deserves a prominent place on any itinerary along the Galician coast, especially if what you're looking for is calm and natural beauty.

How to Get to Playa de Vilarrube

Getting to Playa de Vilarrube is relatively straightforward, although we will find ourselves in an environment that still retains its rural authenticity. If we come from Ferrol, the nearest major city, we will take the AC-116 road towards Cedeira, and after passing Valdoviño, we will find the signs for Vilarrube. The access is well signposted, and the roads, although secondary in some sections, are in good condition.

Access and Parking

We have several options for parking. Along the road that borders the beach, we find designated areas and a larger parking lot near the center of the cove. Although it can fill up during the high season, the length of the beach allows the crowds to disperse, and it's usually not a problem to find a spot. We always recommend arriving early on the busiest days to secure the best spot. Pedestrian access to the sand is comfortable and direct from the parking areas.

The Sand and the Water

When we talk about Playa de Vilarrube, one of its greatest attractions is, certainly, its fine, golden sand. It's a soft, pleasant-to-the-touch sand, perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles, or simply lying down to enjoy the sun. The beach's expanse guarantees that, even on the busiest days, we will always find a space for ourselves without feeling crowded.

The waters of Vilarrube are, generally, calm and crystal clear. Its condition as a protected cove minimizes the impact of Atlantic waves, making them ideal for swimming, especially for the little ones. Although they are not warm waters like those of the Mediterranean, their temperature is typical of the Galician Atlantic: refreshing in summer and invigorating at other times of the year. The cleanliness of the water is notable, and the quality is usually excellent, inviting us to enjoy a dip without worries.

• Restrooms/WC: There are restroom modules available, which are essential for a hassle-free beach day.
• Parking: As already mentioned, we have free parking areas, facilitating access to the beach.
• Chiringuitos and dining: Although there are no large complexes directly on the sand, in the immediate vicinity of the beach and within a short walking distance, we find some chiringuitos and establishments where we can enjoy a refreshing drink, an ice cream, or even a light meal. These places usually offer local products and a relaxed atmosphere.

Best Time to Visit

The choice of the best time to visit Playa de Vilarrube will largely depend on our personal preferences and what we are looking for in our beach experience.

Summer (June-September)

The high season, covering the months of June, July, August, and early September, is undoubtedly the most popular time. During these months, the weather is warmer and more stable, the days are long, and all the beach services (lifeguards, showers, chiringuitos) are operational. It's the ideal time to fully enjoy swimming and water activities. However, the number of visitors is higher, especially on August weekends.

Spring and Autumn (April-May and September-November)

For those seeking tranquility and the beauty of the landscape without crowds, spring and autumn are wonderful seasons. The climate is mild, perfect for long walks along the shore, enjoying nature and photography. Although swimming may be only for the bravest, the peace that permeates Vilarrube during these times is unmatched. The colors of the surroundings change, offering different and very photogenic landscapes. It's an excellent time to connect with the essence of the beach of Valdoviño.
