How to Get to Playa de Costacabana

Getting to Playa de Costacabana is relatively easy, whether we're coming from the center of Almería or other points in the province. We always recommend planning the route a little to ensure a comfortable and stress-free arrival.

By Private Car

If we choose the car, the A-7 highway is the main access road to Almería. Once in the city, we must take the exit towards the El Toyo or Retamar area, following the signs to Costacabana. The beach is well signposted and the road is easily accessible. One of the great advantages of this Playa de Costacabana is the availability of parking. In the urbanization, especially on the streets adjacent to the coast, there is usually space to park, although in the summer months, especially on weekends, it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot right on the front line. Still, with a little patience, we always find a spot. We highly value this convenience, as it allows us to bring everything needed for a beach day without worries.

By Public Transport

For those who prefer not to drive, public transport is an excellent alternative. The Almería urban bus line (Surbus) offers regular connections from the city center to the Costacabana area. The X1 line is the one that usually covers this route, with stops just a few meters from the beach. It's a very practical and economical option, allowing us to forget about the car and enjoy the scenery during the journey. We always advise checking the updated schedules on the Surbus website, as they may vary depending on the season.

Access on Foot or by Bicycle

For the more active, Playa de Costacabana is also accessible on foot or by bicycle, especially if we are staying nearby or in the El Toyo area. There is a promenade that connects several nearby Almería beaches, allowing for a pleasant walk along the sea. It's a fantastic option for those looking to integrate physical exercise into their vacation and enjoy the coastal views before reaching the sand.

Type of Sand and Ground

Here, the type of sand is definitely mixed. Let's not expect to find the fine, golden sand often associated with the beaches of southern Spain. In Costacabana, the sand is darker, with grayish and ochre tones, and mixes with small pebbles and gravel. This combination gives it a more natural and wild appearance, and also has its advantages. For example, the sand doesn't stick as much to the skin or towels, making cleaning easier at the end of the day. The type of ground is, therefore, also mixed, a blend of sand and pebble that may require a bit of adaptation when walking barefoot, but which we find part of its charm. We advise wearing water shoes if we are very sensitive to stones, although most people walk without problems.

We have enjoyed many swims here and have always been surprised by the cleanliness and calm of the sea. As it's not a beach with strong currents, it's ideal for swimming, especially for children. The entry into the water is gentle and gradual, making it very safe. The water color varies between turquoise blue and emerald green, depending on the sunlight and the seabed. Often, we can see small fish swimming near the shore, indicating the good quality of its waters. The sensation when immersing yourself is always refreshing and revitalizing, a true invitation to relax and forget the outside world.
