How to Get to Playa de El Corral

Getting to Playa de El Corral is, for us, an intrinsic part of the adventure and allows us to appreciate its sheltered and exclusive character even more. We always recommend planning the route in advance, especially if it's your first time in the area, as it is not a direct, urbanized access. The beach is located south of the urban center of Carboneras, following the coastline towards Agua Amarga, and is fully integrated within the boundaries of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, which already gives us a clue about its less-intervened nature.

By Car

The most comfortable and practical way to get to Playa de El Corral is certainly by car. From Carboneras, you must take the AL-5107 road, which runs parallel to the coast heading south. After a few kilometers, and after passing some smaller coves and the turn-off for the Mesa Roldán Lighthouse, you will find a signposted turn-off, although sometimes discreetly, so pay close attention to the signs! This turn-off will lead you onto a dirt track.

We always advise driving on this track with caution. Although it is generally in good condition, it is not paved and may have potholes or irregularities, especially after rain. An SUV or 4x4 type vehicle might be more comfortable, but a conventional car can travel without major problems if driven slowly. This type of rural access is precisely what helps maintain the wild and uncrowded character of the beach. At the end of the track, or on its wide verges, you will find areas where you can park your car. It is essential that we are respectful of the environment and park only in permitted places or where we do not obstruct the path or damage the vegetation. From the nearest parking area, there is usually a short path, a few minutes on foot, that gently descends to the sand, offering spectacular panoramic views of the cove and the sea before reaching your final destination. It is a moment that always gives us an unforgettable first impression of the beauty of the Carboneras beach.

Public Transport and Other Options

Access by public transport to Playa de El Corral is practically non-existent due to its semi-virgin location and its integration into the Natural Park. The bus lines operating in the area mainly connect the larger towns (such as Carboneras, Mojácar, Agua Amarga, or Almería city), but do not reach this cove directly. If you do not have your own vehicle, our recommendation would be to rent one at Almería airport or in one of the nearby towns. This will give you the freedom and autonomy needed to explore not only Playa de El Corral but also the numerous charms of the Natural Park. Another option would be a taxi from Carboneras, although the cost could be high and not all taxi drivers are willing to drive on dirt roads, plus their availability might be limited in such remote areas. A mountain bike could be an alternative for the more adventurous, but the terrain can be demanding.
