When we think of Almería beaches, images of virgin coves or extensive urban sandy beaches often come to mind. Playa de Quitapellejos (Palomares) achieves a perfect balance between both worlds. It's not a wild, inaccessible beach, but neither is it overcrowded to the point of losing its charm. How to Get to Playa de Quitapellejos (Palomares)

Getting to Playa de Quitapellejos (Palomares) is relatively straightforward, which is a point in its favor. Its location in the Levante Almeriense makes it accessible from various directions, especially if you're coming by road.

By Car

This is undoubtedly the most comfortable way to access the beach. If you're coming from the north or south via the Mediterranean Highway (A-7/E-15), you should take the exit towards Vera/Garrucha/Cuevas del Almanzora. Once on the local road (usually the A-332 or A-1200), follow the signs towards Palomares. The beach is well signposted once you approach the Palomares area. We always recommend using a GPS, entering 'Playa de Quitapellejos, Palomares' or the coordinates we've provided (latitude 37.2520, longitude -1.8290), to ensure a hassle-free arrival.

Parking

One of the great benefits of this beach is the ease of parking. It has designated parking areas, often free, right near the sandy beach. This is a significant advantage, especially in the summer months, when finding a spot can be a headache at other more crowded beaches. We always appreciate the convenience of being able to park the car nearby and not having to carry all the beach gear on long walks.

By Public Transport

Public transport options are more limited, as is often the case with many less urbanized Almería beaches. There are bus lines connecting Cuevas del Almanzora and Palomares with other nearby towns like Vera or Garrucha. However, to get directly to the shore of Playa de Quitapellejos, you'll likely need to combine the bus with a walk or a local taxi. We really appreciate beaches with this type of sand, as they make the experience much more comfortable and pleasant.

The waters of Playa de Quitapellejos are typically calm and of a blue-green color that invites you for a swim. They are often shallow near the shore, making them ideal for children and those who don't feel entirely safe in rougher waters. The water quality is excellent, a factor reinforced by the usual presence of the Blue Flag, a distinction that guarantees not only water cleanliness but also service provision and good environmental management. Although it's not a beach famous for its coral reefs, its sandy seabeds are clean and safe. The absence of large rocks in the main bathing area contributes to the safety and comfort of swimmers. We always recommend bringing diving goggles to explore a bit – you never know what surprises the seabed might hold!
