How to Get to Playa del Arco

Getting to Playa del Arco is part of the adventure and charm of this destination. Being a pristine beach within a protected natural park, access requires a small effort, which helps maintain its exclusive and uncrowded character. We always advise planning the route well to enjoy it to the fullest without setbacks.

The most common starting point to reach Playa del Arco is the charming village of San José, one of the most important and best-equipped urban centers within the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park. From San José, the most common route is to take the local road heading south, towards Cala Higuera and then towards the Los Escullos area. It is important to pay attention to the signage, which, although discreet, will guide us along dirt roads or forest tracks.

Once we leave the paved road, we will find a dirt path winding through the arid and fascinating landscape of the park. This section is passable by car, but we recommend doing so with caution, especially if our vehicle is not a 4x4, as the terrain can be uneven and rocky. However, the reward at the end of the path is well worth it. Generally, there are informal areas where you can park the car, often at the side of the path or in small improvised clearings. It is crucial to always respect the park's signage and not park outside permitted areas to avoid damaging the local flora and fauna.

From the point where we park the vehicle, there is usually a trail, sometimes not very well-marked, that leads directly to the beach. This last stretch is a short walk, about 5 to 15 minutes, depending on where we parked and our pace. The trail offers spectacular panoramic views of the coastline, with cliffs, hidden coves, and the vastness of the Mediterranean Sea. It is a perfect opportunity to start feeling the magic of the place even before setting foot on the sand. For us, this walk is an essential part of the experience, a gradual transition towards the serenity that awaits us at Playa del Arco.
