How to get to Playa de Salinas

Getting to Playa de Salinas is quite straightforward, given its excellent location and the area's good connections. If we come by car, the A-8 highway (Autovía del Cantábrico) is our best ally. We'll take the exit towards Avilés and, from there, follow the signs to Salinas. The journey from Oviedo or Gijón is approximately 20-30 minutes, making it an ideal getaway for a day or a weekend.

Parking in Salinas

Once in Salinas, finding parking can be a challenge during the high season, especially in July and August. However, the town has several parking areas, both free and paid, distributed near the promenade and in adjacent streets. Our recommendation is to arrive early if we visit in the middle of summer to secure a good spot. During the rest of the year, parking availability is much greater, allowing us to enjoy more peacefully.

Public transport

For those who prefer public transport, Salinas is well connected to Avilés via regular bus lines. From Avilés, we can take buses that will drop us off a few minutes' walk from the beach. Avilés, in turn, has a train and bus station with connections to the main cities of Asturias and the rest of Spain, facilitating access to Playa de Salinas without the need for a private vehicle.

The sand and the water

Playa de Salinas is distinguished by its unmistakable sand, of a pale golden hue and a fine texture that invites you to walk barefoot and build sandcastles. It stretches for one and a half kilometers, offering a vast space for all visitors, even on the busiest days. This expanse is one of its great advantages, as we never feel overwhelmed by the crowd; we always find our own corner of peace.

The waters of Playa de Salinas, typical of the Cantabrian Sea, are usually cool and invigorating, ideal for cooling off on hot summer days. Despite its fame as a surfing destination, the beach has calm swimming areas, especially in the part closest to the town, where the waves are gentler. The water quality is excellent, which has earned it the Blue Flag distinction on numerous occasions, a seal of guarantee that gives us total confidence to enjoy a safe and pleasant swim.

• Parking: As we already mentioned, there are several parking areas, some free and some paid, close to the beach.
• Beach Bars and Restaurants: The gastronomic offer is varied and of high quality. Right on the beach, we find several 'chiringuitos' where we can enjoy a refreshing drink or a snack with sea views. On the promenade and in the town of Salinas, the restaurant offer is even greater, with options for all tastes and budgets.
• Equipment Rental: If we are fans of water sports or want to try something new, we will find surf schools and establishments where we can rent boards, wetsuits, and other equipment. It's a fantastic opportunity to try surfing, for example.
• Sun Umbrellas and Loungers: During the high season, it is possible to rent sun umbrellas and loungers for greater comfort, although many visitors prefer to bring their own or simply spread their towel on the sand.
• Sports Area: The expanse of the beach allows for the practice of sports like beach volleyball or soccer, and its promenade is perfect for running, skating, or simply taking a walk.
