How to Get to Playa de Montgat

One of the great advantages of Playa de Montgat is, without a doubt, its unbeatable accessibility. We always value comfort when planning a beach day, and Montgat excels in this aspect. The simplest and most recommended way to get there is by using public transport, especially the train.

By Train

The R1 line of Rodalies de Catalunya (Commuter Rail) is our perfect ally. Montgat station is just a few meters from the beach, allowing us to get off the train and, in just two or three minutes on foot, already feel the sand under our feet. This line connects Montgat directly with central Barcelona (Plaça de Catalunya, Arc de Triomf) and other coastal towns in Maresme and Garraf. The train frequency is excellent, making planning minimal and improvisation, maximum.

By Bus

Several bus lines, both urban and interurban, connect Montgat with neighboring municipalities and Barcelona. The TUSGSAL bus lines, for example, offer connections that can be useful if we're coming from Badalona or other areas of the metropolitan area. The stops are usually well signposted and also very close to the coastline.

By Car

If we prefer the comfort of our own vehicle, Playa de Montgat is accessible via the C-31 (Maresme Highway) or the N-II. However, we must be aware that parking near the beach, especially during the summer months or on weekends, can be limited and paid. There are some regulated parking zones (blue zone) and underground parking lots in the center of Montgat, but we always recommend arriving early or considering the train option to avoid frustration. For us, the peace of mind of not having to search for parking is an undeniable plus.

By Bicycle

For lovers of two wheels, there is a bike lane that runs along a good part of the Maresme coast, connecting Montgat with Barcelona and other municipalities. It's a fantastic option to enjoy the landscape and get some exercise before a refreshing swim. There are areas to lock bicycles near the promenade, although we always recommend using secure locks.

The Water

The waters bathing the coast of Montgat are, for the most part, calm and shallow near the shore, making them a safe and very suitable place for children and the elderly to swim. The slope for entering the sea is gentle, allowing for gradual entry without surprises. Furthermore, the water quality is usually excellent, which has earned it the Blue Flag distinction on numerous occasions, a recognition that certifies good environmental management and service quality. The clarity of the water allows us to see the sandy bottom, inviting a relaxing and refreshing swim. Although it's not an area known for great marine richness for snorkeling, the clarity is sufficient to enjoy a worry-free dip.
