How to Get to Playa de Armintza
Getting to Playa de Armintza, on the Biscay coast, is part of the adventure and quite simple by car. The village of Armintza, in Lemoiz, is about 30 kilometers north of Bilbao. We always recommend a car for exploring this area, for the flexibility it offers.
From Bilbao, the most efficient route is to take the BI-631 towards Mungia and then the BI-2120 towards Bakio, turning off towards Armintza. The road descending to the village is winding but offers spectacular views. Once in Armintza, the Lemoiz beach is located next to the port. There are parking areas near the port, sometimes paid during high season. We advise arriving early in summer.
Public transport is more limited. There is a Bizkaibus bus line connecting Armintza with Mungia and Bilbao, but with low frequency. For exploring the region, a car is the best choice, providing the freedom to discover unexpected corners.

For the traditional sun and beach, the summer season (June, July, and August) is the most popular. Temperatures are warmer, the sun shines, and the waters invite a swim. Furthermore, it has lifeguards and the village comes to life. We recommend summer for families, although Armintza never gets overcrowded.
If the priority is tranquility and nature, spring (April and May) and autumn (September and October) are ideal. The weather is pleasant, the beaches are less crowded, and for surfing enthusiasts, these seasons often offer optimal wave conditions. We adore the colors of nature during these times.
The winter (November to March) is the quietest and wildest time. Temperatures are low, but there are spectacular sunny days to see the force of the sea. We don't recommend it for swimming, but yes for a relaxing getaway and contemplation. Each season has its particular charm at Lemoiz beach.
