How to Get to Playa de Amió

Getting to Playa de Amió is relatively straightforward, although it requires a small detour from the main routes, which contributes to its more secluded atmosphere. If coming from the east or west via the A-8 (Autovía del Cantábrico), the most convenient exit is the one heading towards Pesués or San Vicente de la Barquera. From there, follow the signs towards Val de San Vicente and, specifically, towards the coast. The beach is located near the village of Pechón.

Access and Parking

Once in the vicinity, you will find signage guiding you to the beach. It is important to consider that, being a beach with a more natural and less developed spirit, parking options can be somewhat limited, especially during the peak summer months of July and August. We recommend arriving early to secure a good spot. Generally, there is a nearby parking area, sometimes paid during the summer, which facilitates pedestrian access to the sand. The walk from the parking area to the shore is short and pleasant, allowing us to enjoy the first views of the surroundings.

The Sand and Water

The most distinctive feature of Playa de Amió is, without a doubt, its sand. We can confirm it is of exceptional quality: fine, soft, and with a golden hue that shines under the Cantabrian sun. It is perfect for walking barefoot, for children to build sandcastles, or simply for spreading out a towel and enjoying a comfortable day in the sun.

Regarding the water, Playa de Amió is known for its cleanliness and transparency. Being sheltered by cliffs, the waves are usually gentle, making it a safe and very pleasant place for swimming, even for the little ones. The water temperature, as is usual in the Cantabrian Sea, can be refreshing, but on sunny summer days, it is a delight to dive into its crystal-clear waters and feel the stress dissipate with every stroke. The water quality is usually excellent, inviting long swims and full enjoyment of the marine environment.

• Parking: As already mentioned, there are nearby parking areas, facilitating access to the beach.
• Chiringuitos (Beach Bars): During the summer months, it is common to find a chiringuito or nearby establishment where you can have a drink, an ice cream, or even enjoy a light meal with sea views. They are perfect for taking a break and recharging.

Best Time to Visit

The choice of the best time to visit Playa de Amió will largely depend on our personal preferences and what we seek in our beach experience. We have been fortunate to visit it at different times of the year, and each season offers something unique.

Summer (June, July, August)

The summer season is, as expected, the most popular. The days are longer, the sun warmer, and the water temperature more pleasant. It is the ideal time to enjoy long swims, sunbathe, and take advantage of all available services. However, it is also when the beach receives the highest number of visitors. If we are looking for a lively atmosphere and all the comforts, summer is our choice.

Spring and Autumn (April, May, September, October)

For us, spring and autumn are perhaps the most magical seasons to visit Playa de Amió. The weather is generally still mild and pleasant, but the influx of tourists decreases considerably. This allows us to enjoy the beach in its purest state, with almost absolute tranquility. The landscapes are painted with vibrant colors and the sunsets are spectacular.
