On the contrary, El Molinuco is an invitation to disconnect, a natural canvas where the intense blue of the Cantabrian Sea blends with the green of the vegetation and the gold of its fine sand.

How to Get to Playa de El Molinuco

Getting to Playa de El Molinuco is part of the adventure and charm of this place. Don't expect a direct, signposted access like urban beaches, but rather a path that brings us closer to its most intimate nature. We always recommend planning the visit, as its location, near the iconic Cabo Mayor Lighthouse and Mataleñas Park, requires a short walk.

By Car

If we choose the car, the most useful reference point is the Cabo Mayor Lighthouse. From the center of Santander, we'll take the S-20 towards El Sardinero and then follow the signs to the lighthouse. Once there, we'll find free parking areas, although they can be busy in high season. From the lighthouse or Mataleñas Park parking, access to the cove is on foot. It's a pleasant walk that allows us to enjoy the views of the cliffs and the sea before descending to the sand.

On Foot and Public Transport

For walking enthusiasts, Playa de El Molinuco is accessible on foot from El Sardinero, following the coastal path that borders Mataleñas Park. It's a scenic route that offers spectacular panoramic views. If we prefer public transport, several Santander urban bus lines (TUS) bring us close to the El Sardinero area or the surroundings of the lighthouse. From the nearest stops, such as those at Mataleñas Park, we'll have to continue on foot, descending along a path with some difficulty, with stairs and uneven paths that lead directly to the sand. It's important to wear comfortable and suitable footwear for the descent.

The Sand and Water

Playa de El Molinuco surprises us with its fine, golden sand, a delight for the feet and perfect for laying out a towel and enjoying the sun. Unlike other Cantabrian beaches that may have coarser sand or pebbles, here the texture is soft and pleasant, inviting us to walk barefoot along the shore. The expanse of sand is modest, which contributes to its intimate and sheltered atmosphere. It's a cove that feels sheltered by the cliffs that flank it, creating a particular microclimate.

The waters of the Cantabrian Sea at El Molinuco are, as in much of the Cantabrian coast, of astonishing clarity. We find a clean, crystal-clear sea that invites a swim. The color of the water varies between emerald green and intense blue, reflecting the sky and the depth. The temperature, as is usual in northern Spain, is cool, even in summer, making it perfect for a refreshing dip. It's an ideal place for swimming and enjoying the purity of the sea, always with caution, as being a more natural cove, it does not have lifeguard surveillance.

If we're looking for a beach with a wide range of services, Playa de El Molinuco might not be our first choice. And its charm lies precisely in its wild and natural character. Directly on the sand, we won't find showers, lifeguards, beach bars (chiringuitos), or umbrella or sunbed rentals. It's a cove that invites self-sufficiency, to bring everything we need for our beach day.

However, its proximity to more urbanized and touristy areas like El Sardinero or the Cabo Mayor Lighthouse itself, assures us that we won't be completely deprived. A few minutes by car or a longer walk away, we can find:

• Parking: As already mentioned, there are parking areas around the Cabo Mayor Lighthouse and Mataleñas Park.
• Restaurants and Cafes: Near the lighthouse there are some options, and in El Sardinero the offer is very wide.
• Bathrooms/WC: Available near the restaurants and on larger beaches like those in El Sardinero.
• Grocery Stores: In El Sardinero or in the center of Santander, to stock up on drinks and provisions before the visit.
