Introduction
Welcome to a dreamy corner in the heart of the Atlantic, where the sun shines practically all year round and the waters invite endless adventures. Today, we want to take you by the hand to discover one of the most treasured gems of Gran Canaria's southwest coast: Playa de Puerto Rico. Located in the municipality of Mogán, this artificial beach has become a benchmark for those seeking an unforgettable holiday, perfectly combining the comfort of an urban beach with the natural beauty of the island landscape.
From the moment we set foot on its sand, we feel the vibrant energy and welcoming atmosphere that characterises it. It's a destination that has it all: from relaxing days under the sun to exciting water sports, along with exquisite gastronomic offerings and leisure options for all ages. We love its ability to adapt to the needs of every visitor, making it an ideal place for families with young children, couples looking for a romantic getaway, or groups of friends seeking adventure.
How to get to Playa de Puerto Rico
Getting to Playa de Puerto Rico is really easy, thanks to Gran Canaria's excellent connections. We recommend several options so you can choose the one that best suits your preferences and budget.
By car
If you arrive at Gran Canaria Airport (GCLP), the most comfortable and flexible way to get there is by renting a car. The beach is located about 48 kilometres southwest of the airport, and the journey on the GC-1 motorway is direct and well-signposted. In approximately 35-40 minutes, you'll be enjoying the sea breeze. We advise booking in advance, especially during high season. Once in Puerto Rico, you'll find several parking areas, although during the busiest months it can be a bit more difficult to park close to the sand.
By bus
Gran Canaria's public transport network, operated by Global, is very efficient. You can take a bus directly from the airport or from the San Telmo Station in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Lines 90 and 91 will drop you off very close to Playa de Puerto Rico. It's an economical and sustainable option, ideal if you don't want to worry about parking. The buses are modern and comfortable, with air conditioning.
By taxi or private transfer
For those seeking maximum comfort, a taxi from the airport is an excellent option. The price is around 60-70 euros, depending on the time and traffic. You can also book a private transfer service in advance, which will ensure a journey without waiting and directly to the door of your accommodation. It's an alternative we consider very practical if you're travelling with a lot of luggage or in a group.
The sand and the water
One of the biggest attractions of Playa de Puerto Rico is, without a doubt, its sand and waters. The beach, of artificial origin, features fine golden sand, brought directly from the Sahara, which gives it a soft and pleasant feel underfoot. It's perfect for building sandcastles with the little ones or simply for lying down and enjoying the Canarian sun. We love the feeling of its warm sand, which invites you to walk barefoot along the shore.
The waters are another of its strong points. Protected by two breakwaters, Puerto Rico bay is a true haven of peace. Its waters are calm, crystal clear, and shallow at the shore, making it an exceptionally safe place for swimming, especially for families with children. The water temperature remains pleasant all year round, ranging between 18-20°C in winter and exceeding 24°C in summer. This allows you to enjoy a refreshing dip at any time of year. We are always surprised by how calm its waters are, almost like a natural swimming pool.
Services and facilities
Playa de Puerto Rico stands out for its complete range of services and facilities, designed to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay for all visitors. We highly value a beach's infrastructure, and here nothing is missing:

- Lifeguard service: The beach has a lifeguard service during bathing hours, which gives us great peace of mind, especially when travelling with children.
