Introduction

If there is one spot on the Tropical Coast of Granada that has captivated us with its pure essence and its ability to invite us to disconnect, it is undoubtedly Playa de El Lance. Located in the municipality of Gualchos, very close to the charming town of Castell de Ferro, this beach stands as a true refuge for those who, like us, seek to escape the hustle and bustle and immerse themselves in the serenity of the Mediterranean. It is not a typical fine-sand beach; instead, its charm lies precisely in its composition of gravel and coarse sand, which gives it a particular character and waters of astonishing transparency.

Playa de El Lance is a natural canvas where the intense blue of the sea merges with the ochre of the mountains and the native vegetation. It is a place where time seems to stand still, inviting us to enjoy long days under the sun, to swim in its refreshing waters, or simply to walk along its shore, collecting pebbles polished by the ebb and flow of the waves. In short, it is one of those Granada beaches that we cherish in our memory and recommend to anyone yearning for an authentic and relaxing experience on the Andalusian coast.

How to Get to Playa de El Lance

Getting to Playa de El Lance is relatively straightforward, although its more remote location contributes to its tranquil atmosphere. If coming from the A-7 motorway (Autovía del Mediterráneo), the most convenient exit is Castell de Ferro. Once we take that exit, we head east, following the old N-340. The beach stretches for several kilometers between Castell de Ferro and La Mamola, so we will easily find it right by the road.

Access and Parking

The advantage of Playa de El Lance is that it has various areas where we can park our vehicle. Along the N-340, there are small shoulders and improvised parking spots right by the beach, which facilitates direct access to the sand. In high season, these spaces can fill up, but given its length, we always find a spot. We always recommend arriving early to secure a good place, especially if we plan to spend the whole day. It is very convenient access, allowing us to unload the cooler and chairs without much effort.

The Sand and Water

One of the most distinctive features of Playa de El Lance is its composition. Here we won't find the typical fine, golden sand, but rather a mix of coarse sand and pebbles, which gives it a unique texture and a particular sound when walking on it. This composition has an undeniable advantage: the waters are extraordinarily crystal clear. With no fine particles in suspension, underwater visibility is exceptional, making it a paradise for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts.

The color of the sea at Playa de El Lance is a turquoise blue that invites constant bathing. The waters are usually calm, especially on windless days, making it very appealing for swimming and relaxing. The entry into the water has a moderate slope, allowing enjoyment for both those who prefer to bathe near the shore and those who venture further in. The water temperature, typical of the Tropical Coast, is pleasant for much of the year, allowing us to enjoy a good dip from spring well into autumn.

Services and Facilities

Despite its more natural and less developed atmosphere compared to other Granada beaches, Playa de El Lance is not lacking in certain services that make our stay more comfortable and pleasant. It's important to remember that many of these services are seasonal, mainly available during the summer months.

Main Services:

• Chiringuitos: Along the beach, especially in areas closer to the urban centers, we find several chiringuitos where we can enjoy a refreshing drink, an ice cream, or, of course, delicious local cuisine. Some also offer sun lounger and umbrella rentals.
• Showers: At strategic points, showers are installed so we can rinse off the salt and sand before heading home. A detail we always appreciate.
• Parking: As already mentioned, parking is easy right by the road, giving us a lot of freedom.
• Lifeguard Service: During the peak summer season, the beach has lifeguard services, providing additional peace of mind when enjoying a swim, especially if we are with children.

Best Time to Visit

Playa de El Lance is a destination we can enjoy at different times of the year, each with its own charm. However, there are times when it shines with particular intensity.

Summer (June - September)

This is undoubtedly the high season. The days are long and sunny, perfect for enjoying the sea and sun. All services are operational (chiringuitos, lifeguards, showers). However, the number of visitors is higher, although being such an extensive beach, it rarely feels crowded. Temperatures are warm, ideal for prolonged swims.

Spring (April - May) and Autumn (October)

For us, these are the ideal seasons to visit Playa de El Lance if we seek maximum tranquility. The weather remains very pleasant, with mild temperatures that invite walking and enjoying the sun without the intense summer heat. The waters are still warm enough for a refreshing swim, and the beach is practically deserted.
