How to Get to Playa de Los Yesos

Getting to Playa de Los Yesos is relatively easy, although it requires a small detour from the busier routes, which contributes to its tranquil and less crowded atmosphere. If we are coming from the A-7 motorway (Autovía del Mediterráneo), which runs along the entire Andalusian coast, the most convenient exit will be the one that leads us towards La Mamola or Albuñol. Once we take that exit, we will join the old national road N-340, which runs parallel to the coast.

From the N-340, we must watch for the signs that lead us to the small town of Los Yesos, which gives the beach its name. The beach is located right at the foot of this coastal hamlet, so once in the town, it's impossible to get lost. The road there is scenic, winding between cliffs and offering us spectacular views of the Mediterranean, which in itself is part of the experience. We recommend taking it easy and enjoying the landscape during the journey.

Parking Options

Regarding parking, Playa de Los Yesos has designated areas for parking our vehicles, although it's true that during the high season months, like July and August, these can fill up easily. Our recommendation is to arrive early if you visit the beach in the middle of summer, to secure a good spot and avoid possible inconveniences. There are spaces along the access road and in the vicinity of the urban center of Los Yesos. Generally, parking is free, which is a plus we always appreciate. Furthermore, good signage in the area makes it easy to find these parking points without major problems. The Sand and the Water

One of the most distinctive and, in our opinion, most attractive aspects of Playa de Los Yesos is the particularity of its sand and the quality of its waters. Here we won't find the typical fine, golden sand that many associate with the beaches of southern Spain. Instead, we are greeted by a unique combination of dark sand and pebbles polished by the constant ebb and flow of the waves. This mix gives it a wilder and more authentic character, a different feel under our feet that, far from being a drawback, adds a special charm to the experience. The pebbles are smooth and rounded, not bothersome, and the dark sand retains the sun's heat, which is very pleasant on cool mornings.

The presence of these pebbles on the shore has an additional advantage: it contributes to the water being extraordinarily clean and transparent. With no fine sand in suspension, underwater visibility is magnificent, making it a small paradise for snorkeling enthusiasts. We have spent hours exploring the seabed of Los Yesos, where the underwater life, although not exuberant, has given us moments of awe with small fish and some interesting rock formations near the shore. The calm of its waters, protected by the orientation of the cove, makes it a safe and very pleasant place to swim, even for the little ones.
