How to Get to Playa de Psathi

Being on the east coast, it is at a prudent distance from the bustling Chora, which contributes to its tranquil atmosphere. Generally, the most comfortable and recommended way to access Psathi is by private or rental vehicle. We suggest renting a scooter, a quad, or a car in Chora or at the port of Ormos, as this gives us the freedom to move at our own pace and discover other corners of the island.

Directions from Chora

From Chora, the journey to Playa de Psathi takes approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic and the type of vehicle. We will take the main road that crosses the island to the east. The route is generally well signposted, but it is always advisable to carry a map or use GPS. As we get closer, the road becomes more rural, offering us spectacular views of the Ios countryside and the Aegean Sea. There is an unpaved parking area right behind the beach, where we can leave our vehicle without any problems.

Public Transport and Taxis

Although Ios has a bus service connecting the main points of interest, Playa de Psathi is not usually on the regular routes. Therefore, direct public transport is limited or non-existent. An alternative would be to take a taxi from Chora or the port, but the cost can be considerable, especially if we plan several visits. For us, the autonomy of a rental vehicle is unbeatable for exploring Psathi and its surroundings.

The Sand and the Water

This service elevates the experience, allowing us to spend the whole day at the beach without worrying about food.

This allows us to relax fully without having to carry our own equipment. Furthermore, as already indicated, there is a large free parking space right next to the beach, which facilitates vehicle access and saves us parking worries.

It is important to consider that, given its more pristine nature, Playa de Psathi does not have all the services we would find in more organized beaches. For example, there are no public showers, bathrooms/WC (beyond those of the taverna), or lifeguards on duty. Nor will we find equipment rental for water sports or dedicated sports/children's areas.
