How to get to Playa de Caletón Blanco
Getting to Playa de Caletón Blanco is part of the adventure and allows us to enjoy the unique landscapes of northern Lanzarote. It is located on the northeast coast of the island, very close to the picturesque village of Órzola, known as the departure point for ferries to La Graciosa. The most comfortable and recommended way to get there is by car, which gives us the freedom to also explore the surrounding area.
By car
From Arrecife, the capital, we will take the LZ-1 road heading north, passing through towns like Tahíche and Guatiza. We will follow this road until we practically reach Órzola. Playa de Caletón Blanco stretches along the coast before reaching the village. We will easily see informal parking areas on the sides of the road, from where we can access the various coves on foot. The journey from Arrecife usually takes about 30-40 minutes.
Public transport
Although less practical, it is possible to get there by bus. Line 9 operates between Arrecife and Órzola. Once in Órzola, we would have to walk a considerable stretch south to reach the Caletón Blanco coves, which can be a bit tiring, especially with luggage or on hot days. That's why we always suggest a car for a more comfortable and complete experience.
The sand and water
The sand of Playa de Caletón Blanco is undoubtedly one of its most distinctive and attractive features. It is not the typical golden sand found on other Canary Islands beaches; here, the sand is immaculate white, fine and soft to the touch, the result of the erosion of seashells and corals. This dazzling white contrasts spectacularly with the intense black of the surrounding volcanic rocks, creating a landscape that seems from another planet. It is a pleasure to walk barefoot on it and feel its coolness.

When we visit Playa de Caletón Blanco, it is essential to consider that we are dealing with a natural and semi-wild beach. This means that, while its beauty is undeniable, the services and facilities are quite limited or non-existent directly on the sand. And it is precisely this lack of infrastructure that contributes to its pristine charm and the feeling of being in a secluded corner of the world. We highly value this authenticity.
Parking
As mentioned, the main access is by car. Along the LZ-1 road, right next to the coves, we will find several areas to park informally. There is no organized parking lot as such, but we have always found a spot without too much difficulty, especially if we arrive early in the morning or late in the afternoon. It is important to park safely and respectfully towards the environment.
Lack of direct services
It is crucial to know that on the beach itself we will not have:
- Showers or foot-washing stations: We recommend bringing extra towels and fresh water to rinse off the salt.
- Toilets/WC: There are no sanitary facilities. The closest would be in the village of Órzola, a few minutes away by car.
- Beach bars or restaurants: There are no establishments to eat or drink directly on the beach. It is essential to bring our own food, snacks, and, above all, plenty of water. We always prepare a good portable cooler.
- Sunbed and umbrella rentals: Being a natural beach, there is no rental service. If we need shade, we will have to bring our own umbrella or seek shelter among the rocks.
- Lifeguard service: There is usually no lifeguard service at these coves, so caution is paramount, especially with children, even though the waters are very calm.
