How to Get to Playa del Ámbar

We always recommend taking a ferry from the port of Órzola, in the north of Lanzarote. Several companies offer this service quite frequently throughout the day, and the journey lasts approximately 30 minutes, providing us with spectacular views of the Risco de Famara and the very silhouette of La Graciosa emerging from the Atlantic. It's a short trip but full of charm, preparing us for the adventure to come.

Once we disembark in Caleta de Sebo, the only urban center on the island, we will have several options to get to the beach. We must consider that private vehicles are not allowed on La Graciosa, which helps maintain its virgin and tranquil essence. The most popular option, and the one we enjoy the most, is renting bicycles. Caleta de Sebo has several shops where we can rent mountain bikes, perfect for the dirt roads that cross the island. The journey to Playa del Ámbar is approximately 7-8 kilometers and, although not excessively difficult, it does require a certain level of fitness and a willingness to pedal on unpaved trails. It will take us about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on our pace and the stops we make to admire the landscape.

Another alternative, ideal for those who prefer not to pedal or are traveling with more luggage, is to use the services of the island's authorized 4x4 taxis. These vehicles can take us directly to the vicinity of the beach, although not always right to the shore, due to environmental protection. It's a more comfortable option, but also less immersive in the Graciosa experience. Finally, for the most adventurous and hiking lovers, Playa del Ámbar is accessible on foot from Caleta de Sebo. It's a walk of about two hours each way, under the Graciosa sun, so we always advise carrying plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat. Whichever option you choose, the path to Playa del Ámbar is a prelude to the beauty that awaits us, offering unforgettable panoramas of this corner of the Atlantic.

The water temperature, influenced by Atlantic currents, is usually cool and very pleasant, especially during the warmer months of the year. We must consider that, being on the north coast of La Graciosa, Playa del Ámbar is more exposed to Atlantic waves and currents than the beaches on the south coast. Generally, its waters are calm and suitable for swimming, but we always advise exercising extreme caution and observing sea conditions before diving in. There are no lifeguards on this beach, so the responsibility lies entirely with us. Despite this, the feeling of swimming in these pristine waters, with the volcanic landscape in the background and the immensity of the ocean opening before us, is a priceless experience that leaves us with unforgettable memories.
