How to Get to Playa de O Portelo

Getting to Playa de O Portelo is surprisingly simple, which is one of its great advantages. Located in the heart of Burela, on the coast of Lugo, access is very comfortable whether we come by private car or opt for public transport. For those of us traveling by car, the main reference is the town of Burela itself. From the A-8 (Autovía del Cantábrico), we can take the exit towards Foz/Burela and follow the signs to the urban center of Burela. Once in the town, the beach is perfectly signposted and easy to locate.

Car Access and Parking

We always value ease of parking, and in the case of Playa de O Portelo, we find several options. Being an urban beach, it has Parking nearby, both on adjacent streets and in designated areas, especially along the promenade. During the high season, as expected, it can be more difficult to find a spot right next to it, but Burela is a good-sized town and there are always alternatives within a short walking distance. We recommend arriving early on the busiest days to secure a good spot.

Public Transport

If we prefer not to use the car, Burela is well connected by bus to other towns in the Mariña Lucense and to larger cities. Once at the Burela bus station, Playa de O Portelo is a distance we can comfortably cover on foot in a few minutes. It's a pleasant walk through the town center, allowing us to get a feel for the local atmosphere before reaching the sand. For those coming from farther away, the Burela train station is also an option, although with fewer frequencies, and from there it's also possible to walk.
