When we first arrived at Carabeo, we were surprised by its privileged location, nestled between imposing cliffs with spectacular views of the Mediterranean. Its access, via stairs descending from Calle Carabeo, gives it an air of exclusivity and discovery that makes it even more attractive. How to Get to Playa de Carabeo

Getting to Playa de Carabeo is part of the adventure and charm of this place. We always recommend a preliminary stroll through the picturesque streets of Nerja, especially Calle Carabeo, which gives the beach its name and provides access to it. The beach is located just below this street, very close to the famous Balcón de Europa, making it easily accessible on foot if you're already exploring Nerja's center.

Access on Foot

The main access to the beach is via a set of stairs. They are not excessively long, but they do have a certain slope, which may be a factor to consider if traveling with people with reduced mobility or baby strollers. However, the descent is extremely pleasant, offering panoramic views that prepare us for the beauty awaiting below. From the Balcón de Europa, you can reach it in about 5-10 minutes walking along Calle Carabeo, enjoying the whitewashed houses and small shops.

Parking

Being a semi-urban cove, Playa de Carabeo does not have direct parking on the sand. However, in the vicinity of Nerja's center, there are several public parking options: the Calle Carabeo parking lot (paid, but very close), Plaza de España parking, or Verja parking. From any of these, we can reach the beach with a pleasant walk. We always advise arriving early during the high season to secure a good spot, as Nerja is a very popular destination and parking can be challenging during peak hours.

Public Transport

Nerja has a good network of urban buses connecting different points of the municipality. The bus stop closest to Playa de Carabeo is on Calle Carabeo or nearby, facilitating access if we prefer not to use a car. Additionally, from Malaga city, there are intercity bus lines that take us directly to Nerja's bus station, from where a short walk or a taxi will leave us near the beach.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Carabeo captivated us from the first moment with the uniqueness of its sand and the transparency of its waters. Do not expect the vast expanses of golden sand found on other Malaga beaches here. Carabeo's sand is of a mixed type, a combination of darker, fine sand with small stones and pebbles polished by the sea. This mix gives it a rustic and natural character, and although it may not be the most comfortable for lying directly without a towel, it's perfect for those who appreciate the authenticity of a Mediterranean cove. We always recommend bringing sandals or water shoes for greater comfort, especially when entering and exiting the water.

The Crystal-Clear Waters

But if something stands out in Carabeo, it's its waters. They are simply spectacular: crystal-clear, of a turquoise blue color that invites swimming and exploration. The water clarity is such that, even without snorkeling gear, we can observe the seabed and the life inhabiting it. The absence of strong currents and the natural protection of the cliffs make the sea here generally calm and tranquil, turning it into an ideal natural pool for swimming and relaxing.

Temperature and Marine Life

The water temperature at Playa de Carabeo is typically Mediterranean, pleasant from late spring well into autumn. During the summer months, the water is delightful, refreshing but not cold. For snorkeling enthusiasts, this is a small paradise. We have spent hours exploring its rocky bottoms, observing small fish, sea urchins, and algae that form a vibrant ecosystem. It's an experience we highly recommend, even for beginners, as the tranquility of the waters makes practice much easier.

Despite being a moderately sized cove, Playa de Carabeo offers a series of services that, although not as extensive as on larger beaches, are sufficient to guarantee a comfortable and pleasant day.
