When we think of the Costa del Sol, images of vast sandy beaches and massive resorts often come to mind. However, Playa de las Yucas shows us that there are still corners where nature makes its way with singular beauty. Here, the Mediterranean Sea offers us a spectacle of blue and emerald tones that invite us to dive in and discover the rich underwater life that inhabits its seabeds. How to get to Playa de las Yucas

Getting to Playa de las Yucas is relatively easy, which adds to its appeal. Located on the coastal stretch between Torrequebrada and La Viborilla, in Benalmádena, its access is well signposted and comfortable whether we come by car or opt for public transport. We always recommend planning the visit, especially in high season, to avoid setbacks.

By car

If we are coming from Málaga city or any point on the Costa del Sol, the most direct option is to take the A-7 motorway towards Algeciras and then turn off at the Benalmádena/Arroyo de la Miel exit. Once on the N-340, which runs parallel to the coast, the beach is well indicated. Finding parking can be a challenge, especially in the summer months. There are some designated parking areas near the road or on adjacent streets, but they tend to fill up quickly. Our advice is to arrive early if we want to secure a spot or consider a private car park if possible. The experience of discovering this Benalmádena beach is well worth the effort.

By public transport

For those who prefer not to drive, the bus is an excellent alternative. The M-110 line (Málaga-Benalmádena Costa) has stops close to Playa de las Yucas. We can also opt for the Cercanías train (line C-1) to Arroyo de la Miel station and, from there, take a local bus or a taxi to the beach. It is a comfortable and sustainable way to approach this coastal paradise and enjoy the beauty of the Málaga beaches without worries.

The sand and water

One of the most distinctive characteristics of Playa de las Yucas is the composition of its ground and the quality of its waters. Here we will not find the typical fine, golden sand that abounds in other areas of the coast. Instead, we are greeted by a combination of dark sand and pebbles or gravel, giving it a more natural and wild appearance. This mix, which at first glance might seem less comfortable, is precisely what contributes to the exceptional clarity of its waters.

A unique seabed

The presence of pebbles and rocks on the seabed acts as a natural filter, preventing sand from being stirred up by the movement of the waves and keeping the water in a state of almost crystal-clear transparency. For us, this is a real gift, especially if we are snorkeling enthusiasts or simply enjoy observing the seabed with the naked eye. We have spent hours exploring the small rocky nooks, discovering colorful fish, small crabs and anemones that inhabit this particular ecosystem. It is an open window to the marine biodiversity of the Benalmádena beach.

Calm and refreshing waters

The waters of Playa de las Yucas are usually calm and of an intense blue, making them perfect for a relaxing swim. The absence of strong currents and the natural shelter offered by the coves help create a serene and safe environment, ideal for swimming without worries. The water temperature is typical of the Mediterranean, refreshing in summer and milder in spring and autumn. Immersing ourselves in its waters is a revitalizing experience that connects us directly with the essence of the Málaga beaches.

Despite its more natural and cove-like appearance, Playa de las Yucas does not skimp on services, making it a very comfortable option for spending the day. We highly value finding a good balance between the beauty of the surroundings and the availability of essential amenities, and this beach fulfills that admirably.

Chiringuitos and dining

One of the strong points are the 'chiringuitos' (beach bars) located right on the beach or in its vicinity. Here we can taste delicious local cuisine, from the ubiquitous 'pescaíto frito' (fried fish) to sardine skewers, freshly grilled. They are perfect places to have a soft drink, a coffee or enjoy a full meal with sea views. The atmosphere is usually relaxed and welcoming, inviting us to linger over our meal and enjoy the slow pace of the coast. Undoubtedly, an essential part of the experience at Playa de las Yucas.
