How to get to Cala Túnez

Getting to Cala Túnez is part of the adventure, and it's important to know that it is not as direct as accessing an urban beach. The cove is located in a rather rural and natural area, between the towns of Isla Plana and La Azohía, within the vast municipal area of Cartagena. For most visitors, the car is the most practical option.

By car

From Cartagena, we will take the RM-E22 road towards Isla Plana and La Azohía. Once we approach the latter town, we must pay attention to the signs or, better yet, use a GPS with the coordinates we have provided (37.5815, -0.7360). The final access to the cove usually involves turning off onto rural roads or dirt tracks, which may not be paved and require some caution when driving. The parking is informal, normally on the sides of the road or in small nearby clearings, from where we will have to walk a short distance to the sand. Do not expect a signposted and organized parking lot; it is more of a space to leave the vehicle safely before starting the short walk. This last stretch on foot is what helps keep the cove in its natural state and with fewer visitors.

Public transport

Public transport to Cala Túnez is practically non-existent due to its remote location. Bus lines reach La Azohía or Isla Plana, but from there a taxi or a considerable walk would be necessary, which is not the most advisable, especially if we are carrying luggage or with small children. Therefore, we insist that a private car is the best option to fully enjoy this beach in Cartagena.

The sand and the water

When we talk about Cala Túnez, the quality of its sand and waters is one of its undeniable strong points. We describe it as a beach with mixed sand, which means we will find a combination of fine golden sand with small gravel and pebbles polished by the sea. This characteristic gives it a very natural and authentic appearance, far from the monotony of uniform sandy beaches. Walking barefoot on it is a different experience, and the pebbles under our feet remind us that we are in a wild and pure environment.

As for the water, it is, without a doubt, the crown jewel. The waters of Cala Túnez are famous for their crystal clarity and turquoise hue, which irresistibly invites a swim. Being sheltered by small cliffs and the coastal topography, it is usually a place with calm waves, making it perfect for swimming calmly and for snorkeling. Services and facilities

This is where we must be completely honest and transparent with you: Cala Túnez is a beach that stands out for its natural and pristine character, and this implies an almost total absence of services and facilities. While this may seem like an inconvenience to some, for us it is precisely what makes it so special and attractive. It is a place to disconnect from urban comforts and connect with the essence of the Mediterranean.

You will not find in Cala Túnez any beach bars (chiringuitos), lifeguard posts (which implies greater caution), umbrella and sunbed rentals, showers, or public toilets. There are also no sports or children's areas. The only 'facility' we can mention is the possibility of informal parking nearby, as we have already mentioned, which allows us to access the cove. This means that if you decide to visit, you must be completely self-sufficient. We always recommend bringing everything you need:

• Plenty of water and refreshing drinks.
• Food and snacks for the day.
• An umbrella or awning to protect yourself from the sun, as the cove does not offer much natural shade.
• Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.
• A bag to collect all our waste and take it back, thus keeping the cove spotless.
• Snorkeling gear to enjoy its seabed.
