We always recommend the car as the best option to get there, as it gives us the freedom to explore the surroundings at our own pace. From Cartagena, the journey is short and well-signposted, following the RM-12 road towards La Manga and taking the turnoff towards Cabo de Palos. Cala Reona is located just before reaching the popular Cabo de Palos Lighthouse, which makes it easy to find.

Access and Parking

One of the advantages of this beach is that it has a designated parking area, which saves us the worry of looking for a parking spot, especially during high season. Although it can fill up, the turnover is usually smooth. Access to the sand from the parking lot is comfortable, with well-defined paths that lead us directly to the shore. For those who prefer public transport, some bus lines connect Cartagena with Cabo de Palos, and from there, a short walk or a taxi would take us to the cove. However, for maximum comfort and flexibility, our advice is always a private vehicle.

If what we're looking for is to fully enjoy the sun, swimming, and the summer atmosphere, the months of June, July, and August are ideal. The temperatures are warm, the water is at its most pleasant point, and all the beach services are fully operational. However, we must consider that it's the period of highest influx, so the beach will be more crowded. Even so, Cala Reona usually doesn't reach the levels of overcrowding of other areas, always allowing us to find a quiet corner.

Spring and Autumn: Peace and Nature

Our personal recommendation, if we prioritize tranquility and connection with nature, is to visit during the spring (April-May) or autumn (September-October) months. During these seasons, the weather is still very pleasant, with mild temperatures perfect for sunbathing and even swimming. The big difference is the tranquility; the beach is much quieter, allowing us to enjoy the sound of the waves and the landscape almost in solitude. It's the perfect time for long walks along the shore, reading a book in peace, or simply contemplating the horizon without rush.

Winter: A Different Charm

Visiting Cala Reona in winter is a unique experience. Although it's not the time for swimming (unless you're very brave!), the landscape takes on a wilder and more dramatic beauty. The waves can be more powerful, and the wind sculpts the sand in a different way. It's an ideal time for photography enthusiasts, for those seeking absolute solitude, or for a refreshing walk along the coast. The services are more limited, but the essence of the place remains intact.
