How to Get to Playa de la Matalentisco

Getting to Playa de la Matalentisco is part of the adventure and charm of visiting it. Being a cove with a wilder, more natural character, don't expect to find major signs or paved access right to the water's edge. We always recommend planning the route in advance, as its location, while not remote, does require a bit of searching and patience.

Access by Car

The most comfortable way to get there is undoubtedly by car. From Águilas, we must take the road heading south, towards Calabardina and Punta de la Aguila. The cove is located a few kilometers from the urban center, and although the main road (the RM-D15, which connects to the N-332) is good, you'll need to watch for turnoffs towards the smaller coves. At some point, you'll have to leave the asphalt to take a dirt road or forest track that will bring you closer to the area. These roads are usually in good condition for most vehicles, but it's advisable to drive with caution, especially if it has rained recently.

Parking

Given the natural character of Playa de la Matalentisco, there is no formal or paved parking lot. What you'll find are improvised designated areas or wide shoulders along the dirt road where you can leave your car. We always advise parking in a way that doesn't obstruct the passage of other vehicles and, of course, respecting the natural environment. You may have to walk a few meters from where you park to the sand, but this short walk is an excellent opportunity to enjoy the preliminary views of the cove and feel the anticipation of what awaits you.

Public Transport

Due to its isolated nature, Playa de la Matalentisco does not have direct access via public transport. The bus lines operating in Águilas usually cover the urban areas and the more crowded beaches. Therefore, if you don't have your own vehicle, the best option would be to take a taxi from Águilas or, for the more adventurous, consider a longer walk or using a bicycle, always taking into account the uneven terrain of the last stretches of the path. For us, the privacy and beauty of the cove are well worth the extra little effort to get there.
