When we talk about Murcia beaches, we often think of large bays or more well-known destinations, but Playa de San Nicolás Lorca shows us that beauty often lies in simplicity and respect for the environment. How to get to Playa de San Nicolás

Getting to Playa de San Nicolás is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it's not excessively complicated, although it does require a bit of planning, especially if we're not familiar with the area. Starting from Lorca, the nearest city, traveling by car is the most recommended option. We usually take the RM-D14 road, which leads us towards the coastal districts like Puntas de Calnegre.

The beach is located on the stretch of coast belonging to the Cabo Cope and Puntas de Calnegre Regional Park, which already gives us a clue to its natural and relatively pristine character. From Lorca, the journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic and speed. Once we approach the Puntas de Calnegre area, we'll find signage guiding us to the various coves and beaches. It's important to pay attention, as access to some of these beaches may be via rural roads or dirt tracks in the last few kilometers. However, in the case of Playa de San Nicolás, access is relatively straightforward and there are usually areas to leave the car. We always recommend using an updated GPS navigator to avoid unnecessary detours.

Parking in the area

As mentioned, parking is not a structured service like in urban beaches with paid parking lots. Here, we'll find informal parking areas along the paths near the beach. They are mostly dirt clearings where vehicles can park without difficulty. We always advise arriving early, especially during the summer months or on weekends, to secure a good spot and avoid having to park the car too far away. Although it's a quiet place, the popularity of its neighboring coves can increase the influx at certain times. Remember to be respectful of the environment when parking, avoiding blocking access or damaging vegetation.

The sand and water

One of the aspects that captivates us most about Playa de San Nicolás is, without a doubt, the quality of its sand and the purity of its waters. The sand is fine and has a pleasant golden hue to the sight and touch. It's perfect for walking barefoot, for children to play building sandcastles, or simply for spreading out our towel and enjoying the sun. We won't find large rocks or pebbles that hinder walking, making it a very comfortable surface for all types of visitors.

The Mediterranean waters in this area are generally crystal clear and of a turquoise blue hue that irresistibly invites a swim. The entry into the sea is gentle and gradual, without sudden drops, making it especially safe for families with young children. Furthermore, as it is a protected cove, the waves are usually moderate or non-existent, creating a natural pool ideal for swimming and relaxing. We have found that, even on windy days, the calm of its waters is maintained, allowing us to enjoy a pleasant swim on almost any occasion.

Water temperature

The water temperature at Playa de San Nicolás is typically Mediterranean. During the summer months, from June to September, the water reaches very pleasant temperatures, ranging between 22°C and 26°C, making it perfect for spending hours in the water. In spring and autumn, the water remains warm enough for a refreshing swim, especially on sunny days. Even in winter, if we're brave, we can take a dip, although the experience will be more invigorating. The clarity of the water also allows us to observe the seabed, which is a plus for snorkeling enthusiasts.

Services and facilities

As we have already pointed out, Playa de San Nicolás is characterized by its natural environment and tranquility, which means that services and facilities are limited compared to more urbanized beaches. This is, in our opinion, one of its greatest attractions, as it helps preserve its wild essence and allows us a more intimate connection with nature. However, this also means we must be prepared and bring everything we need for our beach day.
