How to get to Playa de Area Grande

Getting to Playa de Area Grande in A Guarda is relatively easy, and the options vary if we come by private car or if we prefer public transport. From our point of view, the comfort of your own vehicle is undeniable for exploring the area at your own pace, but it's always good to know all the alternatives.

By car

If we are coming from the north, for example, from Vigo or Pontevedra, the most common route is to take the AP-9 motorway heading south until the exit towards the AG-57 (Autovía do Val Miñor). Once on the AG-57, we will continue towards Baiona and then take the PO-552 which will take us directly to A Guarda. The PO-552 road is a coastal route that will gift us with spectacular views of the coastline, although it can also be busy in high season. Once in A Guarda, the signage to Playa de Area Grande is clear and will guide us without problems to its vicinity.

If our starting point is the south, from Portugal, we can cross the border via the Tui-Valença international bridge and take the A-55 / A-9 towards Vigo, then turn off onto the PO-552 towards A Guarda. There is also the option of crossing the Miño by ferry from Caminha (Portugal) to A Guarda, a very picturesque and recommended experience if we are not in a hurry. Once in A Guarda, the beach is a short distance from the urban center, and access is comfortable.
