How to Get to Playa de Arneles

Getting to Playa de Arneles is a relatively simple experience, although, as is often the case with the most intimate coves, it requires following a series of directions that we will detail for you so your trip is as comfortable as possible. This beach is located in the municipality of Cangas, in the Morrazo region, and is well connected to the main Galician cities.

From Cangas Center

If you are in the center of Cangas, the journey to Arneles is short and pleasant. You can take the PO-315 road towards Aldán. The beach is located a few kilometers away, well signposted on the left. The drive usually takes about 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic and the time of year. It is also possible to arrive by bicycle for the more athletic, enjoying the coastal views.

From Vigo

From Vigo, you have several options. The most picturesque, and often the fastest in high season to avoid traffic jams, is to take the ferry that connects the center of Vigo with Cangas. Once in Cangas, follow the directions mentioned above. If you prefer the car, the AG-46 highway will take you directly to Cangas in about 25-30 minutes. From there, access is the same.

From Pontevedra

If your starting point is Pontevedra, the provincial capital, you should take the PO-551 highway towards Marín and Cangas. The drive is approximately 30-40 minutes, offering varied landscapes between the interior and the coast. Once in Cangas, the route to Arneles is as already described.

Parking and Access

Playa de Arneles has a nearby parking area, although it is not large, which helps maintain its secluded atmosphere. In high season, especially on weekends in July and August, we recommend arriving early to secure a good spot. From the parking lot, access to the sand is easy and short, without major slopes, making it comfortable for all visitors. It does not have specific access for people with reduced mobility beyond the usual paths, so 'full accessibility' is not its strong point, although its proximity to the parking lot makes things much easier.

The Sand and the Water

One of the biggest attractions of Playa de Arneles is, without a doubt, the quality of its sand and the purity of its waters. We are faced with a sandy beach of fine sand, of a light golden hue that invites you to take off your shoes and feel every grain under your feet. It is a soft and pleasant sand, perfect for laying out a towel, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply taking a quiet stroll along the shore.

The predominant type of ground is, as we have mentioned, sand, which guarantees a gradual and surprise-free entry into the sea. This is a big plus for families with children and for those who are not comfortable with rocky or irregular bottoms. The absence of pebbles or rocks in sight in the main bathing area contributes to that feeling of safety and comfort.

As for the water, Arneles' waters are famous for their clarity and tranquility. Being in a sheltered cove within the Aldán estuary, the waves are usually very gentle or non-existent, making it a natural swimming pool. The color of the water varies from a translucent turquoise at the shore to deeper blues as you go further in. The temperature, as is usual on the beaches of Pontevedra, is cool, especially first thing in the morning, but it is very refreshing and pleasant during the central hours of the day in summer. We always recommend a good dip to revitalize body and mind.

The cleanliness of the environment, both the sand and the water, is something that has always caught our attention in Arneles. Although the 'Blue Flag' may not always fly (many small, well-kept coves do not apply for it or do not meet all the strict infrastructure requirements), the environmental quality is exceptional, and we value that enormously.
