How to Get to Playa de Cabeceira

Getting to Playa de Cabeceira is relatively easy, which adds to its appeal, especially for those traveling with children or seeking maximum comfort. We always recommend planning the route a little to enjoy it to the fullest.

By Car

For us, the car is the most comfortable option to get to Cabeceira, as it offers total freedom of schedule and allows us to explore the surroundings easily. If you're coming from the city of Pontevedra, the journey is very short, just 10-15 minutes. You should take the PO-308 towards Sanxenxo/O Grove. The beach is well signposted at the height of the parish of Lourido, in Poio. If you're coming from other Galician cities like Vigo or Santiago de Compostela, the AP-9 motorway will leave you very close to Pontevedra, and from there, the connection to the PO-308 is direct. It's important to consider that, in high season, access and parking can be busier, but we generally find a spot without too much trouble. There are several free parking areas near the beach, some of them specifically for beach users, which makes arriving and unloading all the beach 'equipment' we usually bring much easier.

By Public Transport

Although the car is the most common, Playa de Cabeceira is also accessible by public transport, which is excellent news for those who prefer to leave the vehicle at home. There are intercity bus lines connecting Pontevedra with Poio and nearby coastal towns. We always advise checking the updated schedules of the Monbus company, which is the main operator in the area, as they can vary depending on the season. The stops are usually within walking distance of the beach, allowing for a pleasant walk before reaching the sand. It's a very practical option to avoid worrying about parking, especially on the busiest days.

On Foot or by Bicycle

For the more active and those staying in the vicinity of Poio or even Pontevedra, getting to Playa de Cabeceira on foot or by bicycle is a delight. There is a pleasant promenade and paths connecting various coastal areas, offering spectacular views of the estuary. It's a wonderful way to enjoy the landscape, get some exercise, and arrive at the beach with an even greater sense of well-being. We often choose this route when the weather is good, as it allows us to appreciate every detail of the surroundings and discover small corners we would otherwise overlook. Furthermore, it's a very sustainable and environmentally friendly option, something we value greatly.
