How to Get to Playa de Carreiro

Getting to Playa de Carreiro is relatively straightforward, although its somewhat more secluded nature means it's not visible from the main roads. We always recommend the car as the most comfortable and flexible option for exploring the O Grove peninsula and its charming beaches. From cities like Santiago de Compostela or Vigo, the journey takes about an hour, taking the AP-9 highway and turning off towards O Grove.

Once in the municipality of O Grove, you should follow the signs towards the San Vicente do Mar area or, more specifically, towards the western coast of the peninsula. Playa de Carreiro is located on this stretch, and although direct signs may be scarce, navigation apps will guide you without a problem. There is a nearby parking area, generally free, although in high season it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot, so we advise arriving early. For those who prefer public transport, there are bus lines connecting O Grove with Pontevedra and other towns, but to get directly to the beach, you'll need to consider a short taxi ride or a walk from the center of O Grove, which can take about 20-30 minutes, a pleasant stroll if the weather is nice.

The Sand and Water

One of the aspects that most captivates us about Playa de Carreiro is, without a doubt, the quality of its sand and the clarity of its waters. The sand is a soft golden color, incredibly fine and pleasant to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply spreading out a towel and enjoying the sun. You won't find large pebbles or annoying rocky areas on the shore, making it very comfortable for swimming and playing.

Thanks to its sheltered location in the ría, currents are minimal and the waves are practically non-existent, resulting in very calm and safe waters. The water temperature, although Atlantic, is quite pleasant in the summer months, inviting long dips and refreshing swims. The cleanliness of the seabed is notable, and on calm days, you can observe small fish swimming near the shore, adding a touch of natural charm to the experience.
