What makes it truly unique is its backdrop: the dense and protected Strofylia forest, a natural reserve that not only provides natural shade and an intoxicating aroma but also harbors rich biodiversity. It's a place where nature shows itself in all its splendor, offering a beach experience that goes beyond sun and sea.
How to Get to Playa de Kalogria
Getting to Playa de Kalogria is relatively straightforward, especially if we are in the Peloponnese region. The main gateway for many international travelers is Athens International Airport (ATH), from where we can take a bus or rent a car for a journey of approximately 2.5 to 3 hours to Patras, the largest city in Achaea. Another closer option is Araxos Airport (GPA), located about 10-15 kilometers from the beach, offering charter and seasonal flights from various European cities. From Araxos, a taxi or rental car will get us to Kalogria in a matter of minutes.
If traveling by car from Patras, the journey takes about 45 minutes to an hour, following the coastal road west. The signage is clear and the route is pleasant, passing through small towns and rural landscapes. Once in the area of the beach Achaea (Peloponnese), we will find several entrances and ample free parking areas, which greatly facilitates access even on the busiest days. We recommend using a GPS navigator for convenience, although the route is quite direct.

The vastness of the beach ensures that, even in high season, we will always find a quiet corner to spread our towel and feel in harmony with the surroundings.
The waters of the Ionian Sea that bathe Kalogria are of astonishing transparency. Their color ranges from a light turquoise in the shallower areas to an intense blue further out from the shore. What is most notable for us is the gentleness of the entry into the sea; the slope is very gradual, making it an exceptionally safe and comfortable beach for all ages. We can wade in several meters without the water covering us completely, which is ideal for children and for those who prefer to splash around calmly. The absence of rocks or pebbles on the bottom, with the type of soil being predominantly sand, makes every dip a pure delight.
Services and Facilities
Playa de Kalogria is a well-organized beach, especially in its central sections, where most services are concentrated. Here, we find everything needed for a perfect beach day. There are numerous vibrant chiringuitos offering everything from refreshments and ice cream to light meals and cocktails, many with music and a lively atmosphere. Alongside these, rows of sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent at a modest price, ensuring comfort and shade during the hottest hours of the day.
In addition to the chiringuitos, the beach has showers to rinse off salt and sand after swimming, as well as clean and well-maintained bathrooms/WCs. The presence of lifeguards during the high season provides us with additional peace of mind, knowing that swimmers' safety is monitored. For those arriving by car, as mentioned before, parking is plentiful and easily accessible. At some points, it's also possible to find equipment rental for basic water sports, adding an extra element of fun to our visit to this magnificent beach Achaea (Peloponnese).

Choosing the right time to visit Playa de Kalogria can make a difference in our experience. For those seeking the summer bustle and the most animated atmosphere, the months of July and August are ideal. During this period, the beach is at its peak, with all chiringuitos open, events, and vibrant energy. However, it's also when the crowds are largest and temperatures are highest.
If what we prefer is tranquility and enjoying the natural beauty with fewer crowds, we highly recommend visiting Kalogria during late spring (May and early June) or early autumn (September and early October). In these months, the weather is still splendid, the waters are warm, and the beach offers incomparable serenity. It's the perfect time for long walks along the shore, for birdwatching in the Strofylia forest, or simply for relaxing under the sun without the pressure of the crowd. Spring gifts us with flora in full bloom, while autumn offers spectacular sunsets and a more intimate atmosphere.
