How to Get to Playa de Lagonisi

To reach this wonderful Chalkidiki beach, the most recommended means of transport is by car. Lagonisi is located on the eastern part of the Sithonia peninsula, not far from the charming village of Ormos Panagias. From Thessaloniki, the car journey takes approximately an hour and a half to two hours, depending on traffic. The route is scenic and well-signposted, taking us through green and coastal landscapes that already hint at the beauty to come.

Once we approach the area, we will find signs guiding us to the beach. Parking is usually informal, along the road or in designated nearby areas, but during the high season it can be a bit tricky to find a spot, so we recommend arriving early. Although there is no direct public transport that drops us off on the sand, we can take a bus to Ormos Panagias and from there take a taxi or walk, if we are willing to hike a few kilometers.

The Sand and Water

The sand of Playa de Lagonisi is, without a doubt, one of its greatest attractions. It is fine and of a dazzling white color, so soft that you'll want to walk barefoot for hours. Its texture is ideal for children, who can build sandcastles without difficulty, and for adults who simply want to lie down and feel its warmth under the Greek sun.

But if the sand is impressive, the water is simply spectacular. The turquoise waters of Lagonisi are incredibly clear and calm, almost like a natural pool. Its shallow depth extends for many meters from the shore, making it exceptionally safe for the little ones and for those who are not comfortable in deep water. The water temperature is pleasantly warm during the summer months, inviting us to spend hours submerged in its refreshing embrace. It is, certainly, one of the best places to enjoy a relaxing swim among all the Greece beaches.

Best Time to Visit

For us, the best time to visit Playa de Lagonisi and Chalkidiki beach in general, is during late spring (late May and June) or early autumn (September). In these months, the weather is glorious, with pleasant temperatures inviting for swimming and sunbathing, but the crowds are significantly smaller than in the peak of summer.

July and August are the high season months. The beach is vibrant and full of life, but it can also be quite crowded, which might take away a bit of that feeling of peace and exclusivity that many seek. However, if we like a lively atmosphere and don't mind sharing the sand with more people, summer is still a fantastic option to enjoy the warm waters and Greek sun.

Activities and Sports

Playa de Lagonisi is, above all, a place for relaxation and quiet enjoyment. The activities we can do here focus mainly on appreciating its natural surroundings:

• Swimming and Bathing: The calm and shallow waters are perfect for swimming and spending hours in the water.
• Snorkeling: Although the seabed is predominantly sandy and there isn't much spectacular marine life, the clarity of the water allows us to easily see the small fish and formations that may be there.
• Paddleboarding and Kayaking: Some chiringuitos may offer paddleboard or kayak rentals, an excellent way to explore the bay from the water and enjoy the views.
• Beach Games: The wide expanse of sand is ideal for playing paddle ball, beach volleyball (if we find space), or simply building sandcastles.
